The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that all students enrolled at least ¾ time have health insurance coverage. Each year students are required to either enroll in or waive enrollment in the College's Student Health Insurance Program. If you already have health insurance and would like to waive enrollment in the College’s plan, and have the student insurance premium removed from your bill, you must submit a health insurance waiver by the tuition due date. To review the details of the College’s plan and to complete the enrollment or waiver form, visit www.universityhealthplans.com.

No, book costs are not included in the tuition bill. Average book costs are approximately $1,000 for the academic year and vary depending on the student’s program of study and how they choose to purchase books. The Emmanuel College Bookstore is a great resource for finding the most cost-effective way to access needed course materials. In addition to new and used books, e-books and book rentals are available.

Students should plan to pay for books and equipment (laptops, etc.) at the start of the fall semester. Students using financial aid or loans to cover expenses beyond those billed by the College will not be able to access funds until after the add/drop period is over (approximately five weeks from the beginning of the semester) and it is important to plan accordingly.

Although mid-semester withdrawals are infrequent, some students may benefit from tuition insurance. Students have the option of purchasing varying amounts of tuition insurance through GradGuard to protect their investment if they were to leave school prior to the end of the semester due to illness, injury, or death.

If you have questions regarding the plan, please visit https://gradguard.com/tuition/emmanuel. View the College’s withdrawal policy.

What is the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF)?
The purpose of the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) funds was to assist students in need during the Coronavirus pandemic. For more information on the HEERF grants, please see below.

HEERF I: Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES)
In March 2020 Congress approved the CARES Act, which established the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) to assist eligible students with expenses related to the disruption of the academic semester due to coronavirus. Expenses include but are not limited to food, housing (including moving and storage), course materials, technology and health care and child care. The CARES Act Emergency Grant does not need to be repaid. Emergency grants for expenses related to the disruption of the academic semester due to Coronavirus are qualified disaster relief payments under section 139 of the Internal Revenue Code. This grant is not included in your gross income.

  • Students must meet general Title IV (federal financial aid) requirements to qualify:
  • Eligible students who have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to Emmanuel were issued a check or e-check during the week of May 11th for delivery on or before the end of May.
  • Grants range from $200 - $500 depending on enrollment status and demonstrated financial need.
  • Eligible students received an email to their Emmanuel College email account on May 8th 2020 providing the amount of the grant.
  • If you have never submitted a FAFSA to Emmanuel College, you may be considered for the grant by completing a 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. If you cannot complete a FAFSA, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at financialservices [at] emmanuel.edu (financialservices[at]emmanuel[dot]edu) or 617-735-9938.

HEERF II & III: The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) and American Recovery Plan (ARP)
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) and American Recovery Plan (ARP) provide additional Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding (HEERF) for colleges and universities. Students may automatically qualify for a HEERF grant based on Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the 2020-21 or 2021-22 FAFSA and were notified via email if they met established criteria. Student eligibility and award amounts for HEERF funding is determined utilizing guidelines issued by the US Department of Education. Based on these guidelines, grant funds are issued to students with exceptional financial need with priority given to domestic undergraduate students. Students who do not meet the established criteria may apply for HEERF funding by completing an application. Applications will be reviewed using the following criteria:

  • Availability of HEERF/CRRSAA Funds
  • Students with exceptional demonstrated financial need as determined by the 2020-21 or 2021-22 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and students experiencing significant financial hardship due to the pandemic
  • Domestic undergraduate students
  • Each application will be considered on a case by case basis but expect average awards to be between $400 and $1,000. Awards will be based on demonstrated financial need, personal circumstances, available funding and federal awarding guidance. Eligible students will be notified via their Emmanuel College email address. Disbursement procedures will be included in this email and action must be taken within 60 days of the email communication to retain eligibility for the grant.
