In 2004, the Jean Yawkey Center opened on the Emmanuel College campus, through generous support from the Yawkey Foundation.
Today this center serves as the “living room” for our students, as well as a facility used by a number of community groups. Named for Jean Yawkey, the co-founder of the Yawkey Foundation, the center includes athletic, dining, fitness/wellness, and gathering spaces. The building also houses the Jean Yawkey Center for Community Leadership (JYCCL), dedicated to developing service opportunities and leadership skills for Emmanuel College students and providing programs for young people in Boston area schools and community organizations.
Emmanuel College's longstanding partnership with the Yawkey Foundation has not only had a dramatic impact on our students, but has resulted in initiatives that make an impact throughout the neighboring community.
The Jean Yawkey Center (JYC) acts as the "living room" of Emmanuel's 17-acre campus: a central gathering space for students that includes athletic, dining, fitness, wellness and gathering areas. The JYC opened in 2004 with support from the Yawkey Foundation.
The JYCCL is a program housed within Emmanuel's Jean Yawkey Center that develops service opportunities and leadership skills for students and runs programs for young people in Boston-area schools and community organizations.
