Become a Tutor

To be eligible to tutor in the ARC, you must:

• Have completed the courses for which you will be tutoring with a grade of at least B+.
• Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and uphold the college's community standards and student code of conduct.
• Be recommended by a professor as someone who not only was outstanding in the class and successfully completed the course, but also as a student who has the interpersonal skills to work well with peers.
• Complete a tutor application and interview with the ARC.

During the first semester of employment, tutors must:

• Complete all initial paperwork and payroll forms.
• Complete the New Tutor Training Program.

Each semester, tutors must:

• Consult with the professor and introduce themselves to the class(es) for which they tutor.
• Attend 2 All-Tutor Meetings each semester.
• Be available at least 5 hours a week during the ARC's open hours. The tutor may choose hours that work for their schedule.

What is New Tutor Training Like?

New Tutor Training takes place at the beginning of each semester. Along with reading the New Tutor Handbook and watching training videos, new tutors receive in-person training and are also required to attend a focus group with lead peer tutors on a specific tutoring topic during the semester.
