Emmanuel’s School of Education trains students in current theory and research-based practice in the design, delivery, and management of curriculum and instruction.

From the exploration of access and equity in the history of American education to in-class instruction and site placements, students use Boston as an extended classroom and explore a variety of learning styles and instructional methods to meet the needs of all students.

The School’s undergraduate programs in elementary and secondary education, as well as in educational studies, prepare students to be leaders in creating—in their classrooms and communities—a culture of collaborative inquiry centered on student learning and healthy development and deeply rooted in social justice. With Emmanuel’s Master of Education degree—and graduate certificates in Sheltered English Immersion, Moderate Disabilities and Instructional Design—practical knowledge and real-world training with a focus on urban education and culturally responsive teaching come together to help students build a thriving classroom—and a successful career.

A city of firsts

A city of firsts

What better city to study education? It's in our DNA. Boston is home to the first public school in the United States, with the founding of Boston Latin School (which is across the street from our campus) in 1635.

Rooted in mission

Rooted in mission

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur believe education is "the greatest work on earth." Our program is grounded in the mission and good works of the SNDdeN, preparing graduates who aspire "to create justice and peace for all."

Powerful partnerships

Powerful partnerships

Our students complete their student-teaching at schools all over the city, including Cathedral High, the Richard J. Murphy School, the Tobin School, Fenway High, Boston Latin and more.

Think outside the classroom

Think outside the classroom

In addition to our undergraduate programs in elementary and secondary education, we offer a major in educational studies for students whose professional goals require the in-demand skills honed by trained educators—communication, leadership, conflict resolution, collaboration, adaptability and patience.

What's new and now
