Rising high school juniors and seniors will have the chance to learn from Emmanuel College faculty this summer through a variety of weeklong, residential academic enrichment programs on campus from July 14th to 18th.
The programs offer intensive course options for students with interests in the fields of nursing, science and health, photography, business, and education, providing a taste of college-style courses in the heart of Boston at 400 the Fenway. Learning from current Emmanuel faculty, students participating in the summer programs will get to expand their learning beyond classroom instruction while accessing the College’s labs and technology as well as exploring the Fenway area. Registration is now open at this link and full details on program offerings can be found here.
“Emmanuel’s summer programs are an opportunity for high school students to further explore their interests and learn from our expert faculty,” said Dean of the Maureen Murphy Wilkens School of Nursing & Clinical Science, Diane Shea, Ph.D., RN.
For the second time, Emmanuel College is offering its Summer Nursing Academy – Academic and Informational Training (SAINT) program for aspiring healthcare professionals. The weeklong program includes hands-on training in Emmanuel’s state-of-the-art skills and simulation lab and provides students with certification in both CPR and Stop the Bleed. Students also experienced tours of Boston Children’s Hospital with faculty and received a tour of an ambulance with Boston Emergency Medical Services.
Shea said she and the nursing faculty are looking forward to hosting students again this summer and building on the success of last year’s program. “Thanks to their [faculty’s] dedication, they were able to far exceed even the highest expectations,” she said.
Emmanuel College will also be offering four new hands-on summer programs in 2025.
Students with an interest in data and finance can learn from Emmanuel’s School of Business & Management faculty, including the essentials of banking, economics and wealth creation. They’ll explore Excel basics, full Bloomberg Market Concept availability and programming, said Dean of the School of Business & Management, Anne Marie Pasquale, Esq.
“This course shows you how to use data in business and life. It’s a terrific way to explore the impact of technology and analytics,” she said.
For those with an inclination for the sciences, students can receive hands-on training in laboratory techniques and equipment used for medical research and diagnostics – such as DNA sequencing and cell imaging, and can opt into a 2-credit Medical Terminology course to improve their communication skills in the sciences.
“They’ll gain critical skills and real-world experience as they dive into clinical case studies and patient-driven research, setting them apart for future opportunities,” said Dean of the School of Science & Health, Pádraig Deighan, Ph.D. “With insights from professionals who evaluate medical school applications, they’ll strengthen their path toward medical school and making an impact in healthcare.”
Aspiring teachers can take part in the early child educator program, which includes a variety of workshops and direct experiences working with children ages 2 to 5, including time spent at Mission Grammar School’s Early Childhood Center. “This practical learning experience allows students to apply their knowledge in a real-world context immediately,” said Associate Dean of Field Placements and School Partnerships, Deirdre Bradley-Turner.
Taught by art faculty from the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Emmanuel is also offering a black-and-white analog photography program. Throughout the week, students will learn to operate an analog camera, develop their photos in a dark room and take photos during daily walking tours. While developing their photography skills, they’ll be able to explore all that the Fenway area has to offer, from urban cityscapes to natural parks.
Each program offers a direct look at the Emmanuel College experience and provides insight for high school students into their aspirations after they graduate.
