Leave your legacy as a member of the Heritage Society

Alumni and friends can leave a lasting impact as members of the Heritage Society, Emmanuel's distinguished planned giving society. By including the College in their estate plans, members honor the power of an Emmanuel education while helping to ensure exceptional learning experiences for future generations of students.

A bequest can be made in several ways:

  • You can gift a specific dollar amount or asset
  • You can gift a percentage of your estate
  • You can gift from the balance or residue of your estate
  • You can make a beneficiary designation of certain assets or accounts

Ways to Give

With an IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD), also known as an IRA charitable rollover, individuals may make direct charitable distributions of up to $100,000* from their traditional, rollover, or Roth IRAs without including such distributions in their gross income, if they meet the following requirements:

  • A donor must be at least 70 1/2 years of age at the time of the transfer
  • The funds must pass directly from the donor’s IRA custodian to Emmanuel
  • This provision applies to IRAs, Roth IRAs, inactive SEPs, and inactive SIMPLE IRAs**

**active SEP, active SIMPLE IRAs, 403(b)s, 401(k)s, and pension plans are not eligible

The gift may satisfy a donor’s IRA required minimum distribution for the year. Since the amount of the direct charitable distribution can be excluded from the donor’s gross income, there is no federal income tax deduction available for such gifts.

*This amount will be indexed for inflation starting in 2024.

Please note that these instructions are for outright IRA QCDs gifts ONLY. If you would like instructions on how to fund a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust with an IRA QCD, please contact the Office of Advancement at 617-735-9771 or alumni [at] emmanuel.edu (alumni[at]emmanuel[dot]edu).

You give your property to Emmanuel College but retain the right to use the property during your life.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving program that allows you to easily support your favorite charities. You may also be eligible for certain tax benefits. An increasingly popular charitable vehicle, DAFs are an excellent way to both simplify your charitable giving and facilitate your strategic philanthropic goals. You can make a gift to Emmanuel through your DAF or contact the office with any questions.

To make a contribution through a wire transfer, please contact the Office of Advancement at 617-735-9771 or alumni [at] emmanuel.edu (alumni[at]emmanuel[dot]edu).
