Study the History, Politics and Cultures of Latin America
Emmanuel's Latin American studies minor explores the diverse histories, cultures, languages and political systems of Latin America and the Caribbean. Drawing on courses in history, political science, literature, economics and Spanish, you'll examine the region's Indigenous, African and European influences and the forces that continue to shape its societies today.
You'll study topics such as colonialism, migration, democracy, race and ethnicity, literature and cultural identity while developing a deeper understanding of one of the world's most dynamic regions. Through interdisciplinary coursework and opportunities to study abroad, you'll strengthen your language skills, expand your global perspective and gain the cultural knowledge needed to engage with Latin America in careers spanning education, international business, public policy, nonprofit organizations and global affairs.
