As a first-generation, financially-independent college student at Emmanuel College, I learned (and demonstrated) the determination and resolve needed to succeed. And succeed I have; from local tech startups, to Fidelity Investments, PwC, and now a major pharmaceutical company, I've applied my experience and drive to working on the cutting edge of the conversational AI field. Since my graduation, I've continued to be involved in the communications and photography communities, delivering lectures, networking with and supporting alumni, and providing career mentorship.
I offer a relatable perspective for Emmanuel College students trying to navigate the new landscape that they will be joining soon. As someone who benefitted greatly from my time at Emmanuel College, I would like to try to make sure as many students as possible can get the same or similar experience as I did and be set up for success in their next chapter after Emmanuel College, as I was. What I lack in professional experience, I believe I make up for with my personal experience as a young adult attempting to join a professional field.
Emmanuel College has provided me with the opportunities, connections, and friendships that have changed the course of my life for the better. I am a first-generation American college student; my parents are immigrants from the Azores. I am the first person in my extended and immediate family to “go away to college” as my other family members had decided to commute/stay closer to home. I spent my time at Emmanuel expanding my horizons in terms of meeting new people, learning new subjects, and developing my interests. It provided me with the foundation to learn about myself, to truly learn to trust my instincts, and hone my communication skills. I was fortunate enough to intern at the Technology and Innovation Development Office (TIDO) at Boston Children's Hospital in the winter semester of my senior year. While there I worked on creating Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) for the Dr. Zon Stem Cell Program. I was working closely with professionals in the space of law and science, and it was an excellent learning experience for me. I learned to professionally communicate with people of different modalities. I did informational interviews with each of my coworkers and learned to “interview” professionals and ask thoughtful questions. During my time at TIDO, I learned how much I would owe in student loans. I began to panic; my parents were not in a financial position to help me, and I knew I needed to do this work on my own. Because I worked for TIDO and had BCH access to their internal job postings, I applied for several jobs at Longwood Medical Center Hospitals. In November 2013, I was given the opportunity to work in the Surgical Pathology Department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. I oversaw accessioning specimens and learning Surgical and Anatomical Pathology workflows. I attended lectures from world-class physicians who were the leaders in the Anatomical Pathology field and learned the newest research and innovations in the field. I continued to work at BWH after graduation and it was at this organization that I learned about the Healthcare Informatics industry. I am currently a consultant in the Healthcare Informatics industry working with the Epic EMR software in which I implement IT solutions for healthcare organizations across the United States. At Emmanuel College I learned to look people in the eye, ask thoughtful questions, be direct, and communicate clearly. I use these communication skills in each interaction I have with clients, physicians, and operational leadership. I enjoy mentoring fellow analysts, developing clear documentation for training end users, and thoughtfully testing the product to give my end users and ultimately patients the best experience. I would be honored to be considered for the Emmanuel College Alumni Association Board of Directors. I feel indebted to Emmanuel for everything it has provided me, and I would love to help others find their home at 400 The Fenway.
Emmanuel College provided me with the education, mentorship, and guidance to grow as an individual. I absolutely loved my experience as a student, so much so, that I decided to pivot from my initial career path of being a medical professional to a higher education professional. I am a dedicated enrollment management professional with a passion for access and support. I attribute my success to the well-rounded education I received at Emmanuel, not just in the classroom but through my authentic interactions with students, faculty, and staff. Prior to enrolling at Emmanuel, I was shy and kept to myself, but I owe it to all who challenged and helped me push past my fears to get involved and make the most of my college experience. I left Emmanuel with a great education and the confidence to succeed in the ”real world.” Since graduating in 2013, I have attended some alumni events, volunteered to help with crowd control at the 2014 Dance Marathon event and have stayed informed and up to date on the state of the college. Graduating and leaving a community I was so connected to was hard, but I knew I didn’t want to be the student who never left. While it was hard, it was important for me to build a community outside Emmanuel. Thankfully, I didn’t end up far. Working at Wentworth provides me with the community feel and a similar experience I had as a student at Emmanuel. Not to mention it keeps me close by to a place I call a second home. By being a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, I hope to offer my passion and commitment to Emmanuel, expand my knowledge of the College and its strategic plan and inspire our network of alumni to contribute to the growth and success of the college.
As a graduate of GPP, a member of the Fenway community, and the Boston-area university community (I am a Financial Officer at MIT) I feel my perspective will be a unique offering to the AAB.
I have been an active member of the alumni board, and I would appreciate surviving a second term.
As a proud graduate of Emmanuel, Class of 1971, I welcome the opportunity to serve on the College Alumni Association Board. I attended Emmanuel during challenging and complex times at the height of the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. I believe that the education I received during that time gave me an appreciation for the complexity of the issues surrounding war and poverty, an understanding of the importance of considering multiple perspectives, and the confidence to act and facilitate change when the opportunity is presented. I have always been proud to share that I graduated from Emmanuel College, and I am thrilled at the way the college has continued to strengthen and expand as a model of excellence in higher education. I would like to give back to the college as it educates and supports the next generation of students. As an educator, I have had wide and varying experiences working with students, teachers, educational leaders, and community leaders in support of increasing access to educational opportunities for all students, especially for those who are traditionally underserved. Social justice and equity of opportunity are passions of mine and I would like to support the work of the college as it continues to expand and strengthen its offerings to ensure that every student can fulfill their potential. I believe that my values and experience align with the goals of the alumni association, and I would like to give back to and support the college community that inspired and guided me during my educational career.
Emmanuel College has played a pivotal role in shaping my personal and professional growth – deepening my values of service, leadership, and social justice. As an alumna, I am eager to give back to the institution that helped define my passions, bringing expertise in community engagement, public service, and strategic marketing to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. From a personal perspective, I am deeply committed to building bridges between people, institutions, and communities – a passion that took root at Emmanuel. As Vice President of HUELLAS, I worked to uplift Latinx voices and foster an inclusive campus community, a mission I continue today through my work with civic engagement initiatives. I believe in the power of a strong alumni network to create opportunities for both current students and graduates, and I look forward to any opportunity to help cultivate those connections. Professionally, as a Program Coordinator at Yale University, I work closely with nonprofit leaders, ensuring access to executive education and leadership development opportunities. My background in program development, stakeholder engagement, and digital learning platforms has equipped me with skills in building learning portals, driving revenue, managing budgets, and delivering exceptional service. These experiences align closely with the Alumni Board’s mission, particularly in expanding alumni engagement, strengthening mentorship programs, and advancing Emmanuel’s commitment to social impact. As a young professional, I bring energy, adaptability, and a deep commitment to lifelong learning – qualities that uniquely position me to grow from this leadership opportunity. Serving in this capacity would allow me to leverage my skills in program development and community engagement to enhance the college’s alumni network. I am eager to collaborate on initiatives that foster meaningful alumni relations and ensure Emmanuel remains a place where students and graduates feel supported, connected, and inspired to make a difference. It would be an honor to serve and contribute to Emmanuel’s legacy in this capacity.
I have always been someone that is passionate about all that I am involved in. As a student at Emmanuel, I embraced the mission and culture by diving headfirst into maybe what was too many involvements. As an alumni volunteer in the Art Department, I did this, and as a past staff member the same was true. What would I bring to the board? I would bring a unique perspective in the lenses of creativity and a young perspective as a recent-ish alumna. I will bring my knowledge of the mission of the school and experience from the Young Alumni Council, which has since been dissolved but was a group I really enjoyed being a part of. We were able to connect with current students and join in on conversations on what the future of Emmanuel would look like. I will bring ideas of how as alumni we can continue to collaborate with students, alumni, and SNDdeN. I will bring great experience in studio arts and graphic design to help with any projects the AAB need with branding or advertising for events. I hope to be voted in so I can continue to grow my own network of connections and collaborate with fellow Alum and current students.
As a proud female Hispanic graduate from Emmanuel College, I am representation of the growth and opportunities available at Emmanuel College that have shaped my professional and personal life. I called my Boston my home for 4 years and even with the setback of COVID and remote learning, I was still able to find ways to get involved, I was an active member of Student Government, serving as Executive Resident Representative and Executive Secretary, as well as a Gold Key member of the Admissions Ambassador. I was an avid supporter of the sports teams as many of my friends participated in our wonderful D3 program. I was able to learn how to communicate effectively and consistently through my courses in Political Science and Business Management, and I benefited from a liberal arts education, which allowed me to engage with students outside of my curriculum and form lifelong friends.
After serving on the Board for three consecutive terms I have been able to re-engage with my alma mater. I enjoyed the work we did and I would love to come back and support the Board. I still serve Emmanuel in other ways today. I am currently an adjunct professor with the School of Education. It has been great to connect with current Emmanuel students. I would like to do another term to further support the advancement of the college.
Attending Emmanuel helped me to build the platform that has gotten me to where I am in my career, while simultaneously giving me an amazing group of friends & a truly unmatched college experience in one of the best cities in the world. Since graduating, I have tried to remain involved at Emmanuel in any way I can. I've been beyond grateful to be a member of the Alumni Association Board the past few years & if elected again, I’d love to be able to continue to give back to the community I love.
I am a dedicated Emmanuel College alumnus with a solid background in public health and research. I am passionate about contributing my expertise to the Emmanuel College Alumni Association. Through my personal experience at Emmanuel, I developed a strong sense of community and a strong desire to contribute, which, coupled with my professional skills in networking, event planning, and fundraising, has positioned me to engage alumni, foster meaningful connections, and lead initiatives that benefit the College and its students.
I am just finishing my first term on the Emmanuel Alumni Board, so I offer some experience in that arena. Also, I have had a 30+ year career in higher education, which puts me in a good position to contribute ideas and past experience on initiatives taken up by the Board. Students — and by extension, alumni — continue to be my top priority. My years at Emmanuel were wonderful both personally and educationally, and I would like to make sure that the College continues to grow and prosper. Involvement on the Alumni Board is allowing me to stay involved in activities that will benefit the College and its alumni now and in the future. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur have provided us with a strong foundation — a beautiful campus in the heart of an inspiring community. I'd like to see their vision continue, and membership on the Alumni Board is a good way to achieve that goal.
I would bring a unique combination of personal dedication to Emmanuel College and professional expertise, along with a fresh perspective that will contribute meaningfully to the Alumni Association Board. As an alumnus of Emmanuel College and someone who has attended two Catholic colleges (I attended Boston College for my Masters in Teaching), I have a deep understanding of the values that shape Catholic higher education. Emmanuel played a crucial role in my personal and professional development, and I am eager to give back by strengthening alumni engagement and supporting current students. My role models in my day-to-day life are faculty members from Emmanuel, whose mentorship and guidance have influenced not only my academic and professional path but also my commitment to service, leadership, and lifelong learning. Their dedication to social justice, intellectual curiosity, and ethical leadership continue to inspire me, and I hope to carry forward their legacy by serving on the Alumni Association Board. From a professional standpoint, I bring a strong background in History and Education and an understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, which I actively integrate into my work. In my classes, I use social justice teaching to inspire students to think critically about ethical leadership, community engagement, and the responsibility we have to advocate for marginalized communities. This aligns closely with Emmanuel’s mission and the broader goals of the Alumni Association. My ability to bring a new perspective—rooted in both my academic and professional journey—will help the board explore fresh ways to engage alumni, strengthen connections between past and present students, and further Emmanuel’s commitment to social justice and service. My experience in Waltham Women's club will allow me to connect to other communities and allow me to connect to other alumnus cross generationally. I am deeply committed to Emmanuel College and its mission, and I am excited about the opportunity to serve on the Alumni Association Board. By bringing a unique perspective as someone who has attended two Catholic colleges, an understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, and a strong foundation in social justice education, I hope to contribute to a thriving and engaged alumni community. My personal connection to Emmanuel’s faculty and values, coupled with my professional expertise, will allow me to make a meaningful impact on the board’s initiatives.
I learned early on that relationships are important to success, both personally and professionally. The friends I made at Emmanuel pushed me to take on new adventures and experiences, creating a well-rounded person. Emmanuel exposed me to a network of professionals who continue to support and lead me through my career journey. After each Emmanuel event I attend, I leave with a strong sense of pride to be part of a wonderful community. As a current member of the Alumni Associate Board, my goal continues to bring together fellow EC graduates through a variety of alumni events/engagement activities and have each of them share with their respective communities that same sense of Emmanuel Pride. This past year on the board I was able to expand current responsibilities on the board by acting as Nominating Committee’s co-chair for the 2025 election cycle, which I hope to continue to leadership role on the board through my intent to run as Treasurer for the upcoming term. Additional experience I offer to the executive board as Treasurer includes my background in financial services advising on financial strategy and reviewing complex financial reports.
I am extremely excited to express my interest in joining the Emmanuel College Alumni Association Board. As a proud alumnus, I am eager to contribute to our alumni community and promote the values of spirituality, service, pride, professionalism, relationships, and traditions. During my time at Emmanuel, I co-founded the Accounting Club and the MMA Club, which allowed me to develop leadership skills and foster a sense of community. My experiences have instilled in me a strong desire to give back and create an environment where alumni feel connected and supported. Professionally, I am a member of the Latino Professional Network at EY, where I advocate for diversity and inclusion. I am also proud to share that I have successfully passed all four sections of the CPA exam and will soon be a certified CPA. This achievement, combined with my commitment to service, will enable me to bring valuable insights to the board. I aim to enhance alumni engagement and support current students through mentorship and networking initiatives. I am eager to bring my passion for Emmanuel College and my dedication to inclusivity to the Alumni Association Board. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to our vibrant alumni community.
