After their first year, returning students must actively indicate their interest in living in Emmanuel College housing for the upcoming academic year. Students select with whom and where they want to live based on seniority and the available inventory. Students will receive information on their class standing on February 17th.

The Office of Residence Life & Housing will be managing the housing selection process via a new online platform. More information about any changes from prior selection processes will be communicated following the March 13th requirement deadline.

No, incoming and new transfer students are not eligible to participate in the returning student process. This includes being part of group of 3 or 4 for consideration for custom triples in St. Joseph Hall or 2-bedroom apartments in the New Residence Hall, respectively.

If later, there is an opportunity to place students together based on vacancies that might arise, the Office of Residence Life will work with students, though no requests can be guaranteed.

Any undergraduate student returning for the 2023-2024 academic year, enrolling in a minimum course load of 12 credits, and wishing to live in Emmanuel housing needs to complete the following steps no later than Monday, March 13, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Submit the $250 non-refundable housing deposit. This will be applied to the Fall 2023 semester bill. Students that cancel their housing request will forfeit their deposit.
  • Submit the 2023-2024 Housing Application (lease and preference questionnaire) via the Student Self-Service section of Adirondack’s The Housing Director. The application will become available starting Thursday, February 17th to anyone with the housing deposit on file. Students will only get access to the application once their deposit has been processed. Applications should be available to students with deposits the next business day. Deposits received over the weekend will be processed the next business day.
  • Be in good financial standing; students with a financial hold will not be able to participate in room selection.  To view your account balance, please go to EC Online Services.

Students will receive more information on how to access the housing application on February 16th.

It is the responsibility of student to complete the requirements ahead of the deadline; failure to complete the requirements by the stated deadline will prevent participation in housing selection. Additional requirements may apply based on type of housing inventory.

Yes, all students, including those who are applying to be a Resident Assistant should plan to complete the requirements by the March 13th deadline. This ensures that the Office of Residence Life & Housing understand which students are interested in Emmanuel housing, regardless of their employment as an RA.

Housing deposits may be paid online using ACH or credit card using the payment portal linked here. Please do not use the tuition portal to submit the housing deposit since this may slow down the Office of Residence Life’s ability to confirm your deposit payment. Checks and cash will not be accepted.

If you have concerns about paying the housing deposit, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at financialservices [at] emmanuel.edu or 617-735-9938 prior to the March 4th deposit deadline to discuss payment options.

Housing and meal plan prices are available here. The prices for traditional residence halls include a meal plan. The stated prices for the New Residence Hall and Notre Dame Campus do not include a meal plan. Residents of these locations may purchase a meal plan following the housing selection process.

If your family is assisting you with the cost of education, before participating in housing selection, we encourage you to review this information with your family. If you would like to live on campus but are concerned about the cost, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at 617-735-9938 or financialservices [at] emmanuel.edu for information on the resources available to pay for on-campus housing.

Students who complete the requirements by the stated deadlines select housing in order of their class standing according to the Registrar (i.e. senior select first, then juniors, etc). Class standing is based upon completed and earned credits. Currently registered credits or any transfer credits not received and posted by the Office of the Registrar nor future planned credits are not factored into class standing are not factored into class standing. All individuals within a class standing group are issued randomly assigned individual lottery numbers. The date of submission for the housing lease and deposit does not factor into an individuals' lottery number.

The Office of Residence Life & Housing will e-mail students their current class standing based on earned or completed credits as provided by the Registrar. Residence Life & Housing does not manage class credits and therefore cannot make changes unless instructed by the Registrar.

Students are also able to check their class standing by logging into Student Planning, click My Progress, then view your completed credits on Student Planning on “Total Credits Bar” in the “At a Glance” section of the “My Progress” page on Student Planning. Below please find a chart explaining the color designation on the Total Credit progress bar. You may also hover over each color to view the description on the progress bar.

Transfer credits received by the Office of the Registrar, will be posted within 2-3 business days. If transfer credit adjusts your class standing, the Registrar’s Office will notify Residence Life. No changes will be made to housing selection days after March 13th, even if a transfer credit is posted that would change the academic standing.

For questions concerning class standing and the status of any received transfer credit, please contact Assistant Registrar for Records, Nathaniel Ellis at ellisn [at] emmanuel.edu and copy regmail [at] emmanuel.edu.

Factors such as GPA, student involvement, athletics, employment, financial aid, scholarships, living-learning community participation, and housing assignment history among others do not influence selection order at all. However, a student’s conduct history and/or association with any compromise of community standards may affect Housing Selection options and/or eligibility.

The ability of any student to select their preferred housing inventory is based on overall participation in the returning housing selection process and the available inventory. This can vary from year to year so it is possible that an upper-class student will not be able to select from their preferred room type or location.

Yes, students can form pairs or groups with students of different class years. Doing so can impact when and what type of housing inventory may be available for them to select.

Any student who does not fulfill or meet the three requirements by the deadline will not be eligible to participate in Housing Selection, including the group housing process. Therefore, while you may be eligible to select housing, the other student is not. If they submit the missing requirement after the March 13th deadline, they will be added to the non-guaranteed housing waitlist and can only be accommodated as vacancies arise in the housing inventory.

In the summer, if there is an opportunity to pull the student into housing, Residence Life can attempt to place intended roommates together through the room change process on a first-come, first-served basis as spaces allows. It is not guaranteed that the pairing will be possible, and we encourage students to complete all required items by the March 13th deadline

The St. Julie Hall, Notre Dame Campus and St. Joseph Hall are the anticipated housing inventory for returning students. Inventory is subject to change, and students will be updated via e-mail.

All buildings have amenities such as 24/7 security, access to full kitchens and lounge space, and elevator access. All utilities (cable, internet, heat, electricity, water, etc.) are included within the room & board charge.

St. Julie Hall

Emmanuel’s 18-story upper-class residence hall offers students the convenience and community of living on campus and the independence and vibrancy of apartment-style living in the heart of Boston.

Each two-bedroom apartment will accommodate four students and include individual beds, dressers, and closets, as well as two full baths, common living area, full kitchen (dishwasher, oven and stove) and a washer and dryer. A small number of studio apartments will also be available. The first floor features gathering and event spaces that will be open to all members of the College community, including the Joe Di’s Food Mart, Dunkin’, a fitness center and dance/aerobic studio, and a media room and study lounge.

The LEED-certified building houses 690 students from both Emmanuel and MCPHS University, aligning with the City’s goals for colleges to house undergraduate students on campus.

Residents of this location are not required to have a meal plan but may choose from one of our available options.

St. Joseph Hall

St. Joseph Hall is a six-story residence hall housing approximately 400 students. Forty-five to 75 students reside on each floor and share two, single-sex bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen. The building is also home to study and hangout space and a strength and conditioning fitness center.

Residents of this location are automatically enrolled in the 225-semester block meal plan and fees are included in the room & board charge.

Notre Dame Campus

Located less than two miles from the hustle and bustle of the main campus at 400 The Fenway, the Notre Dame Campus (NDC) is a three-story, non-traditional residence hall housing up to 40 students. Beautifully located in the historic Fort Hill/Highland Park neighborhoods, students living at NDC truly enjoy the feeling of “going home” at the end of a long day. The building offers many of the same perks as being on the main campus—with a little more privacy, independence and the opportunity to be part of a unique community. When students need to get to class, the library, or any of our evening events, the College offers regular shuttle service between the main campus and NDC.

Rooming options in this building include singles and doubles with a variety of bathroom setups. NDC also includes many and varied options for studying and abundant green space with a gazebo to spend time outdoors relaxing and recharging. The Notre Dame Campus is the home of the College’s Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies, where residents have easy access to dynamic programming and can extend their learning outside of the classroom.

Residents of this location are not required to have a meal plan but may choose from one of our available options.

Housing demand varies from year to year. It is not until the assignment process begins that the College is able to understand actual demand for Emmanuel housing since some students may make alternate arrangements between the start of the process and when room selections are made.

If there is more interest than inventory, some students will be placed on a waitlist. The student account will reflect a standard double room with a meal plan on the billing statement for planning purposes. A specific housing assignment will be provided over the summer.

Once the office processes housing cancellations from other students starting mid-June 2023, we will determine the housing assignments for students with a temporary placement. This could be located within other College-owned inventory as space provides or at a satellite location.

If the student is placed on the waitlist and they have a roommate request, they will be asked to provide that information at a later date so Residence Life can work to place the students together as spaces allows.

Studio Apartment

There are a limited number of studio apartments in the New Residence Hall. Students who wish to live in a studio will have the opportunity to indicate that this request on the housing application. There is no separate application for consideration. Students must have the $250 non-refundable deposit and housing application (lease and preference questionnaire) to be considered. Submitting a request does not guarantee a studio apartment.

Based on interest and inventory, students who are not able to select a studio apartment will be able to join a group or participate in traditional selection as an individual or pair.

Group Housing

Students interested in selecting 2-bedroom apartments in the New Residence Hall (groups of four) or custom triples in St. Joseph Hall (groups of three) must use the Roommate Match functionality in The Housing Director to form their group.

Students will only be able to search and find individuals who have the minimum requirements of the deposit and application on file by the March 13th deadline. While the Office of Residence Life & Housing will monitor roommate requests, it is the responsibility of students to review and confirm any roommate requests they might receive from other students as this is the way for the office to verify these are mutual requests.

Like studio requests, the formation of a group of 3 or 4 does not guarantee that the group will be able to select from that type of inventory. Group members should discuss how students might deconstruct the group if they must select from traditional double occupancy inventory.

Single

Emmanuel has a very limited number of single occupancy spaces in our inventory. These are located at Notre Dame Campus. Students can select a single during individual and pair selection days, if available.

Housing Accommodations

Students registered with Student Accessibility and Accommodation (SAA), who are seeking a housing accommodation due to medical, mobility, or other documented needs, must submit a completed Housing Accommodation packet to SAA, in addition to the $250 non-refundable deposit and completed application (lease and preference questionnaire). The Housing Accommodation packet must be submitted to Noelle Galli, Assistant Director of SAA via email at gallin [at] emmanuel.edu beginning on February 15, 2022 and are due no later than Friday, March 3, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. for consideration If any of these elements are not received by the stated deadline, the request will held until all requirements are received. If any element is received after the deadline, the requests will be considered post-deadline and reviewed during a two-week period following the standard housing selection process. All post-deadline offers made will be based on the available housing inventory at that time.

A Housing Committee comprised of relevant campus entities will review all confidential requests and identify campus facilities that may best meet the documented need(s). PLEASE NOTE NOT ALL REQUESTS MAY BE GRANTED as they are dependent upon available housing inventory. A Residence Life & Housing representative will communicate an accommodation offer via email to the student. All offers must be responded to by the date noted in the offer email, typically within 48 hours of receipt.

For more information, please visit Student Accessibility and Accommodation

Medical necessity air conditioning request

Requests for A/C units are based on impact to physical and medical functioning. As such, documentation from a medical provider will be required for consideration. This request is to create a housing exception to bring a window air conditioning unit to campus. Like housing accommodations, please note that not all requests may be granted based on available inventory.

To request the form, students should e-mail reslife2 [at] emmanuel.edu. This form must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on March 3, 2023 for consideration.

As someone who plans to study abroad in the fall, you do not need to participate in the housing selection process when it opens. The Office of Residence Life & Housing will outreach to those who might be abroad, on a leave, etc. during the fall 2023 semester to gage who might be interested in housing for spring 2023. If we have vacancies available to offer, students can be pulled into housing. Historically we have been able to accommodate these students but cannot guarantee this as housing demand can vary year to year. If students may change your mind about studying abroad for fall, it is recommended that they complete the necessary requirements by the stated deadlines once this information is announced.

If there are students who are uncertain about traveling or if their programs get cancelled at a later time, the Office of Residence Life & Housing will work with the Office of International Programs & Study Abroad will work together to determine the availability of Emmanuel housing on a case-by-case basis.

Each year there are students that do not have someone in mind with who they want to live with for the upcoming academic year. Here are some ways that students can participate as an individual:

Single occupancy space - See studio and single

Roommate Match – The Housing Director software has a Roommate Match function to allow students to find other students with similar responses to some of the housing preference questions. Students can connect and discuss if this might be a good match before committing to living together.

The Office of Residence Life & Housing will also hold Roommate Mingles in February where students will also have the opportunity to meet other students.

Residence Life & Housing’s priority is to get students off the non-guaranteed housing waitlist as vacancies arise in our housing inventory. Students on the non-guaranteed housing waitlist will be placed into any vacancy even if it is not their first choice. Once in housing, students can submit a room change request. These are processed on a first-come, first-served basis as space allows and cannot be guaranteed.
