Meet the Staff
Director of Community Service and Service Learning
Deirdre Bradley-Turner is the Director of Community Service and Service Learning, working within Campus Ministry to develop and implement community service programs. Deirdre is a 1998 graduate of Emmanuel College. She previously was the Community Program Manager at The Boston Children's Museum before returning to Emmanuel in 2001 to continue her work in community service. Deirdre earned her Master of Science in Management from Emmanuel in 2012. She is originally from Bradford, Massachusetts, and now resides in Dorchester with her husband and two children.
Laurel Clanton Bolden
Laurel Clanton Bolden is the Administrative Assistant for the Campus Ministry Office and the Center for Mission Engagement. Laurel is a 2007 and 2012 graduate of Salem State University and holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in History. In addition to her work at Emmanuel, she is also a dance instructor in Beverly, MA.
Rev. John Patrick Spencer, S.J.
Fr. Spencer, a Jesuit, has extensive experience in pastoral ministry, working with college students in the residence halls at Boston College and as a clinical social worker. He holds degrees from Boston College, Weston School of Theology and Boston University School of Social Work. For 13 years he was an adjunct professor of Human Behavior in the Boston College School of Social Work and worked as a psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years. Fr. Spencer is also the former Director/Superior of the Jesuit Urban Center in Boston.
Campus Minister for Retreats, Prayer + Spirituality
Jen Roy is the Campus Minister for Retreats, Spirituality, and Prayer. Jen organizes annual off-campus retreats, serves as a spiritual director, and offers interfaith prayer services and other opportunities for spiritual development to the campus community. Before coming to Emmanuel College in 2011, Jen was the Catholic Chaplain at Simmons College and Parish Operations Manager for St. Mary of the Angels Church in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Jen has worked in student affairs at Sierra Nevada College, Colorado State University, and California State University, Chico.
Jen has a master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University and a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Puget Sound. Jen also received her certification in Spiritual Direction from the Center for Religious Development, originally through the Weston School of Theology, now the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, and is a member of Spiritual Directors International. Jen also volunteers as a Boston team member for the Ignatian Spirituality Project and serves on the Parish Pastoral Council at St. Mary of the Angels.
Mark R. Harrington '08
Associate Director, Center for Mission Engagement

Mark Harrington is the Associate Director of the Center for Mission Engagement. Mark is responsible for the annual traditions, celebrations and events of the Center not limited to lectures, discussions and service-immersion experiences. Mark is also charged with mission engagement programs to continue the legacy of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur at Emmanuel. Mark serves as advisor to the 1804 Society, a mission-based, student leadership position on campus whose purpose is to learn about the SNDs, Emmanuel's Catholic identity and the history of the College. In turn, the 1804 Society members act as peer educators on campus and ambassadors for college-wide annual traditions and celebrations.
Prior to returning to Emmanuel College, Mark worked in student affairs at both Loyola University New Orleans and Canisius College. Mark currently serves on the school board at Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Mission Grammar School in Roxbury, Massachusetts and is involved in many different professional societies including the Association for Student Affairs at Catholic Colleges and Universities (ASACCU). The 1804 Society was recently recognized as a best practice program by ASACCU as Mark was awarded the 2013 Mission Integration Award for the creation of this mission-based student leadership program.
The Mulvaney Leadership Institute
(MLI) provides leadership training and development for faculty, students and staff at Emmanuel College. Additionally, the MLI provides opportunities to members of our shared learning community to build and sustain skills necessary for ethical and effective teaching and learning.
