Reflect Emmanuel is a series of Advent meditations on Emmanuel, our God with us

Every time I hear and read the annunciation of the Lord and Mary’s visitation from the angel Gabriel it always instills hope and joy in me. As I was reading I kept thinking of the times I had heard of this passage and it always makes me feel better. I can be caught up in the stress and materialism of the holiday season and I seem to forget that this is so much more than just a holiday. It reminds me when I see stickers or postings saying to “Keep Christ in Christmas” or “Remember the Reason for the Season”. It makes me stop what I am doing and I reflect on what really is important.
Mary stopped what she was doing in her life to bring in the life of our savior. She listened to the angel and found signs to help her through, and I like to look upon this passage and pray to have those signs around to help me through the stressful times during the season.
My favorite lines to reflect upon are “"Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." And “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High.” These lines remind me that no matter where I am in life God will be there. Just like He was for Mary.
