EmmanuelForward Update: January 5, 2022

As we prepare for the opening of the Spring 2022 semester, today we are sharing the first of two communications related to COVID-19 safety measures. As we are all aware, COVID-19 cases have dramatically increased both locally and nationally based on the Omicron variant. Data has shown that those who are vaccinated are far less susceptible to serious illness, which is an encouraging sign.

Given the unpredictable nature of this virus, Emmanuel College will continue to have guidelines in place to keep our community healthy. To that end, all residential students will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test prior to move in. This test can be either a PCR or rapid antigen test and must have been administered within 72-hours of returning to campus. The Testing Center will also be open for those who would like to test on campus or are unable to get a test closer to home (see hours of operation below). Those who receive a COVID-19 pre-test off campus may upload results to the External COVID-19 Test Submission form.

All residential students will also be required to test immediately upon arriving on campus (a day “0” test). Commuter students are also required to receive a day “0” test based on their first day on campus.

The Testing Center will be open during its regular hours (Monday-Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), as well as the following additional days for those who are able to come to campus to pre-test:

Saturday, January 15, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Sunday, January 16, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

If you have tested positive in the past 90 days using an off-campus test and have not shared this information with the College, please use the External COVID-19 Test Submission form. The current CDC guideline is that anyone testing positive does not test for 90 days. These dates will be tracked in the CoVerified app.

Regular surveillance testing will continue in the Spring 2022 semester. Those who are fully vaccinated will test once per week. Athletes and those with approved vaccine exemptions will test twice per week.

Next week, additional information will be shared with our community regarding the opening of the semester, including guidelines for events, housing, masking, and the COVID-19 booster requirement.
