Emmanuel to Extend Online-Only Classes Through End of Spring Semester

To Members of the Emmanuel College Community,

Two days ago, I provided a major update on the College’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the centerpiece of which was a move to online-only classes through the end of March. Since then, both the magnitude of the outbreak and the urgency to act have increased.

As a result of fast-moving developments, the College has determined to extend online-only classes through the end of the spring semester.

While this move from face-to-face to remote instruction is unprecedented, I want to emphasize that the College remains operational, and that everything is in place for students to complete Spring 2020 courses and fulfill academic requirements. Our faculty is prepared to offer a high-quality and dynamic experience when online courses commence on Wednesday, March 18th.

This comprehensive list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) addresses a broad range of important and practical matters related to this change. We will continue to update FAQs as more information becomes available. For additional information, please visit our coronavirus information page. Resident students will receive a follow-up e-mail from the Office of Residence Life regarding next steps for a voluntary retrieval of belongings.

All College staff members are working diligently to ensure a successful transition to online instruction and to help community members resolve specific challenges. Please continue to send your questions to our Emergency Preparedness Committee at and review follow-up communications from various offices on campus.

We are committed to working with students and families to make this transition as smooth as possible. Together we will navigate this uncertain time, demonstrating the agility in the face of external change that has characterized the Emmanuel community for over 100 years.
