Dear Students and Families,
I would like to provide a brief update on the College’s Fall 2020 opening plan based on new guidance from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
As you may know, Governor Charlie Baker last Friday signed an executive order aimed at further stemming the spread of COVID-19. The order, which goes into effect August 1st, requires that people traveling to the Commonwealth from out of state complete a travel form and comply with a 14-day quarantine. Exempted from quarantine are individuals traveling from other New England states (Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine), as well as from New York, New Jersey and Hawaii. Additionally, individuals who meet a set of testing criteria are not subject to quarantine. (More information on the state’s COVID-19 travel order is available here.)
These new restrictions are resulting in a change to the number of students opting to live on campus. In view of this shift—as well as our ongoing analysis of public health data and additional input from the City of Boston—the College is reviewing its protocols for housing and for a phased on-campus arrival between August 18th and 24th. As a result, we will not be sending final housing assignments and specific move-in times today as planned. We will provide further information as soon as possible next week.
Thank you for your continued flexibility as we respond to changing external conditions and work to ensure a safe and enriching learning environment for all members of our community.
