Smith Named GNAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its weekly honors for the first week in January and Emmanuel College's Kyle Smith (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named the conference's Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week. Smith's recognition came after the freshman guard led the Saints to an 82-76 win over Fisher College this past Sunday evening. Smith netted a season-high 24 points in the win. His game-high scoring tally came off 10 for 16 shooting from the field and four for six shooting from behind the arc. The rookie guard also garnered team-highs of five assists and three steals to balance out his solid 24-minute effort.
Smith has started in 8 of his 9 games played so far this season and is currently averaging double-figures in the scoring column with 10.6 points per game, while dishing out a team-high 2.4 assists per night.
Smith is the second EC men's player to be honored as the conference's weekly top rookie during this season. Smith's classmate James Sullivan (Wethersfield, Conn.) was named the GNAC Rookie of the Week back on November 26, 2013.
