Scuola di PerfezionamentoIn December, Professor Isa Orvieto held the first workshop at the "Scuola di Perfezionamento," a five-year project aimed to provide K-12 teachers of Italian with an opportunity to explore the subtleties of modern Italian while deepening the knowledge of Italian culture and civilization. In addition to Emmanuel Collge, five universities are partners in this project sponsored by the Italian Consulate of Boston. They are Northeastern University, Brandeis, UMass Boston and Salem University.

Travel to Italy

Students studying Italian in MilanThe third edition of the travel course TODAY'S ITALY: A JOURNEY THROUGH LITERATURE, CINEMA AND EVERYDAY LIFE will occur in the summer of 2017. The course includes three weeks in Milan at the prestigious Università Cattolica, which is located in the city center the UCSC campus. The campus is within walking distance of many of Milan's historical, cultural and religious sites, including the Duomo, Santa Maria delle Grazie (Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper), Castello Sforzesco and many more.

Featured Faculty: Aren Gerdon

Professor Aren Gerdon is the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics and an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Emmanuel College. He leads his own chemistry research group, focusing on biomaterials, and works closely with other research groups across campus. Professor Gerdon is passionate about sharing his deep knowledge of chemistry with his students, guiding them from class work to practical, real-world lab experiments.

Petros Vamvakas is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies and Peace Studies Programs. His work focuses on security and democratization, as well as issues related to identity and race in politics throughout the Americas. As part of his teaching, he has escorted groups of students to Crete, Greece, and will be bringing a group of students to Cuba.
