Whether documentary or blockbuster feature, film has the power to do more than entertain.
Through this interdisciplinary minor, drawing courses from English, art, modern languages and theater, students will obtain a strong foundation in communication, visual language, film analysis and film production. Film minors will learn to ethically produce and consume such texts in their professional, scholarly, and personal lives, with special attention to the ways in which stories have the potential to represent multiple perspectives and to effect social change.

This minor prepares students to create and analyze film. Students will be introduced to digital production tools and strategies and use those tools to create their own original content. In addition, the film minor introduces students to the critical analysis and close reading of filmic texts, with special attention to the ways in which stories have the potential to represent multiple perspectives and to affect social change.

Petros Vamvakas is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies and Peace Studies Programs. His work focuses on security and democratization, as well as issues related to identity and race in politics throughout the Americas. As part of his teaching, he has escorted groups of students to Crete, Greece, and will be bringing a group of students to Cuba.
