At Emmanuel College, we value experiential learning. Nearly 90% of our students participate in an internship or student teaching experience before graduation. Academic internships provide students with opportunities to gain practical experience in a professional environment while engaging in reflection within a classroom environment.
The INT 1001 class is required prior to enrollment in an academic internship course. INT 1001 is a four-week course that is offered during the fall, spring, and summer terms in traditional and online sections and is available for sophomores, juniors and seniors. The course is offered at no cost to students and is a no-credit transcript notation.
Students must also complete departmental prerequisites prior to enrolling in the senior-level academic internship course. We recommend that you meet with your faculty advisor during your junior year to ensure that all pre-requisites are completed prior to the internship semester(s).
Internship requirements will vary by department. Be sure that you know how many hours you are expected to work, if faculty site visits are required, and that you complete all relevant assignments for your academic department internship course. If you are pursuing a double major, you may be required to complete multiple internships.
All academic credit-bearing internships must be approved by the department internship instructor prior to the start of the internship. The student should provide an internship position description and complete the internship paperwork as required by the department. Deadlines and requirements will vary by department.
