Major: Communication and Media Studies
Current Position: Sr. Marketing Associate, Cloud Technology Partners

Shannon Croy's path to her current position as a senior marketing associate at Cloud Technology Partners began the summer before her senior year. To help her stand out from the thousands of college students who would be seeking internships for the fall semester, the communication & media studies major got a head start, accepting a summer internship at the Boston-based tech startup.

A course in organizational behavior during her junior year gave Croy a lens through which to view company culture, and she found Cloud Technology Partners was a good match for her.

"I noticed the unique culture and the lack of a rigid hierarchy was refreshing and inviting to someone who was new to the field of technology and to the workforce in general," Croy said. "As much as I wanted multiple internships and a wide variety of experience, I was compelled to stay at Cloud Technology Partners because of the people and the opportunities I could see longer term."

Since she started at Cloud Technology Partners, Croy has watched her employer grow from a staff of 30 to nearly 100 - and has seen her role evolve apace with the company.

"Transitioning from an intern to an associate, I have moved from posting blogs, formatting PowerPoint presentations and editing the website to having a greater influence on our strategic marketing plan and setting our marketing priorities for the year," she said. "As we build our marketing team, I am confident that my responsibilities will continually change and become more challenging."

Croy credits her current position to each and every experience she had as an Emmanuel student, from her coursework and her work-study position in the College's Office of Marketing Communications, to her responsibilities as Class Secretary during her junior and senior years and her role as communications co-coordinator for Emmanuel College Dance Marathon.

"Each of these seemed to be small things at the time, but they became invaluable when I was asked in an interview how I was able to apply my skill set outside of the classroom," Croy said.
