Honorary Degree Recepients

Elizabeth Hayes Patterson '67 is currently a professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where she has been a faculty member since 1980. In 2001 she received the Law Center's Frank F. Flegal Teaching Award, which recognizes teaching excellence among full-time faculty members. From 1993-97 Professor Patterson served as associate dean for the JD and Graduate Programs at the Law Center. Prior to Georgetown Law, she served as chair of the D.C. Public Service (Utilities) Commission and was a commissioner of the D.C. Public Service Commission as well. A member of the American Law Institute, Professor Patterson has been treasurer of the D.C. Bar and a member of the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Private International Law, the D.C. Bar Screening Committee, and the Editorial Board of the Washington Lawyer. She is an alumna and Trustee of Emmanuel College.

C. Michael Daley served as Chair of the Emmanuel College Board of Trustees during a time of transformative growth in the College's history. Mr. Daley provided leadership to the Board through many major milestones, including the decision to admit young men in 2000 as well as the opening of the Yawkey Center and the development of a unique partnership with Merck in 2004. Retired as chairman, chief executive officer and treasurer of LoJack Corporation, Mr. Daley gave sixteen years of service to Emmanuel's Board, stepping down in June of 2007. He remains a steadfast supporter of the College and its mission, and is the proud parent of Emmanuel alumna Mary Beth Grey '90.

Fr. David Gill, S.J. is a Jesuit priest and Classics scholar at Boston College. Since August of 2003 he has also been pastor at St. Mary of the Angels in Roxbury, a multi-cultural inner city parish. Fr. Dave has engaged its dynamic and diverse community to ensure its continued vitality, even in the face of possible closure by the Archdiocese in 2004. A scholar, teacher and committed advocate for social justice, Fr. Dave celebrated his 50th year as a Jesuit in 2006.
