Speech Communication SPCH6101
The purpose of this course is to provide practical training in the fundamentals of effective public and professional presentation, with emphasis on the preparation and delivery of several specific speech types. These speeches may include a Personal Experience, Descriptive, Demonstrative, Informative, Persuasive, and Impromptu Speeches. Research, outlining, goal setting, observation, and active listening will be stressed in the discussion of speech communication issues. Students will be given tools to enhance their academic and professional public speaking presence.
Principles of Accounting I MGMT6101
This course is an introduction to basic accounting principles and procedures that apply to business in general, with emphasis on the sole proprietorship form of business. Students learn to interpret and use financial accounting information effectively by understanding how accounting data is gathered and processed, and how accounting reports are prepared.
Principles of Management MGMT6107
This course surveys managerial principles, theory, and functions applicable to a variety of organizational settings and conditions. Specific techniques related to each of the managerial functions will be explored as well as general issues and trends which influence the practice of contemporary management.
Project Management MGMT6115
This course surveys project management principles, theory, and functions as they apply to both functional (single department) and matrix / cross-functional (multiple departments) organizations. While certain industries will be highlighted in the course, the principles that are presented are applicable to any industry or company. These principles are also applicable to the non-work environment. Since projects generally involve people working together, team dynamics and management will be explored. Specific techniques related to the management of projects will be explored as well as general issues and trends which influence the practice. Project Management tools will be discussed but will not be a major focus.
Organizational Behavior MGMT7113
This course presents an overview of individual behavior, group behavior, and organizational structures and processes, which impact the effectiveness of organizations. The course emphasizes analysis and application of knowledge to improve performance, organizational effectiveness and manage organizational change.
Ethical Decision Making MGMT7105
This course will consider the role of ethics in business. Theories of business ethics will be introduced and examined through analysis of case studies, group discussion (large and small groups), text readings, lecture and other methods appropriate for learning. The course will also consider ethical arguments about specific issues that arise in business operations. Such issues include whistleblowing, discrimination, affirmative action, unjust dismissal, women and family issues, product safety, corporate social responsibility, and ethics in international business.
