Blood Donor Information
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.
Top five reasons to give blood:
5. You will walk a little taller afterwards - you will feel good about yourself.
4. You will be helping to ensure that blood is there when you or someone close to you may need it. Most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do.
3. It's something you can do on equal footing with the rich and famous - blood is something money can't buy. Only something one person can give to another.
2. You will be someone's hero - you may give a newborn, a child, a mother or a father, a brother, or a sister, another chance at life. In fact, you may help save up to three lives with just one donation.
1. It's the right thing to do.
For more information on donating blood, please visit the Red Cross web site. On Wednesday, November 7th, Campus Ministry will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive. Please watch for more information on the blood drive on First Class Conferences.
Flu Season
Seasonal Influenza: Influenza (also called flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness. The best way to prevent the flu is through yearly vaccinations. In New England, flu season typically begins in December and can last through April.
On average, five percent to 20% of the U.S. population gets the flu shot every year, with more than 200,000 people receiving hospital care. About 36,000 people die from flu (typically infants, the elderly and people with chronic health problems).
The Health Center is sponsoring flu shot clinics again this year to immunize the Emmanuel community and reduce the risk of flu. Please watch for more information on First Class Conferences.
