Academic Advising Syllabus

Program Mission 

To challenge, support, and guide students as they become active participants in their own learning, and explore options, and make choices within the liberal arts and sciences curriculum.

Program Description

A full-year non-credit program designed to assist first-year students in their transition to Emmanuel’s learning community. This is a collaborative effort between the student and his or her academic advisor consisting of, but not limited to, a combination of three group and four individual meetings. Presentations/conversations will address academic expectations, Emmanuel College’s policies and procedures, goal setting, course selection, and development of a four year plan.

Learning Goals

By the end of this program, students should have:

• Established a working relationship with their academic advisor
• An understanding of Emmanuel College’s academic policies and procedures
• Become familiar with the different areas covered in the Academic Catalog
• A clear understanding of the foundation skills and general and major requirements
• Learned how to read their Academic Evaluation Report and become familiar in the use of Online Academic Resources
• Created a working draft of a four-year academic plan
• Developed long term educational plans
• Utilized the full range of campus resources

Attendance Policy

Attendance and participation at all group and individual meetings is expected. The ultimate responsibility for and understanding of fulfilling graduation requirements rests with the student. *Please bring Academic Catalog and Academic Evaluation Report to all meetings.

Assignment Policy

Although assignments are not graded, it is expected that they will completed upon the due date. Each assignment has been designed to help the student develop academic goals and to gain an understanding of academic interests.
