Class of 1969

Arlene Lee Smith and her husband, Ray, are now officially "empty nesters." She is enjoying her job as Director of the Watertown Family Network. The Network services over 700 families with children under the age of four. November/December 2006

Joan Sullivan Gray has moved on from her position at Hyde Park High and is now teaching Humanities at Emmanuel's nearby neighbor, Boston Latin School. Joan finds teaching at BLS a wonderful experience, especially with a number of Emmanuel graduates working on the Boston Latin School staff. On a travel note, Joan and her husband, Hubert, still make regular visits to Hubert's original home, County Sligo, Ireland, frequenting the breathtaking sights of "Yeat's Country." January/February 2006

Mary Fitzpatrick Barroll became the director of the Young Men's Library Association in Ware in 2004. She spent the previous ten years at the medical library of Worcester's Fallon Foundation. March/April 2005

Elizabeth "Jennifer" Morris, Director of Social Work and Interpreter of Services at Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester, received the Caritas Carney President's Award at the annual Foundation Awards Dinner in November 2004. The award is given to a recipient who exemplifies the Caritas Carney Hospital's values of serving with compassion, providing advocacy, having respect for others, and striving for excellence. The recipient also creates a positive hospital environment, takes time to assist patients and co-workers, and supports community needs through outreach and/or volunteer commitments. Jennifer and her husband of 25 years, Steven, live in Boston with their son, Marco, who is a senior at Boston Latin School. March/April 2005

Linda Sheehan Valeska-Gower retired in 2004 from her guidance counseling position at Fitchburg High School after 34 rewarding years. She spent her first winter in Key West, FL, where some of her relatives live. It was great! May/June 2005

Arlene Mollo was a juror for the Zullo Gallery open art competition in Medfield that took place this summer. She selected works by approximately 50 artists from the greater Boston/New England area. She is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Art Education at UMASS Dartmouth. July/August 2005

Elaine Godin Hanson is the new principal of King Phillip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA. She has been an administrator at King Phillip for six years. Elaine is overseeing the orientation of two new assistant principals as well as a $49.5 million renovation project. Elaine lives in Easton with her husband, Jeffrey, an engineer. They have three children who have pursued careers as an attorney, a physical therapist and an engineer. September/October 2005

Antonia Keleher will be retiring in June 2004 after 34 years in Boston Public Schools. She is looking forward to traveling and playing golf with her husband. Jan/Feb 2004

Jean Doerr Sutton has lived in Rhode Island for the past 18 years. She as two daughters: Sarah, at Brown University; and Elizabeth, graduating from high school this year. Jean is self-employed as an advertising writer for Warwick Beach. Jan/Feb 2004

Laura Blanciforti will be unable to attend her 35th reunion but is well. She hopes to make it to the 40th! Mar/Apr 2004

Mary Jane DeSantis earned a Master's in Social Work in 1992 from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been working as a school social worker for Fairfax County Public Schools since 1992 and continues to live in Fairfax County. Her two daughters also reside in Northern Virginia. Mar/Apr 2004

Grace Farrell recently wrote a book, Lillie Devereux, Retracing a Life Erased. Mar/Apr 2004

Kathleen Deary Glynn recently retired as Director of Richmond Art Museum (Richmond, Indiana), and now does private consulting. Mar/Apr 2004

Barbara Lonergan Holtan has been happily married for 32 years. She has five grown children; all are living independently. Barbara is currently heading up 5-year federas initiative Adoptuskids (www.adoptuskids.org). Mar/Apr 2004

Kathleen A. Rogers' new full-length play, Ballast, will be produced at the Boston Center for the Arts from September 16 through October 2, 2004. May/June 2004

M. Elizabeth White is retiring after 35 years in the Burlington Public Schools and is looking forward to it with zeal, excitement and great expectations! May/June 2004

Karen Burke recently retired after 34 years teaching in the Andover Public Schools. She is looking forward to working at Simmons College, where she will be supervising the graduate school interns and student teachers. She also plans to vacation to her condo in Naples, Florida. July/August 2004

Paula Garrand Christian has been a French teacher for many years and was appointed as the Foreign Language Department Chairperson at Belchertown High School. She joins Lori Vaz '75, who has been the English Department Chairperson at BHS for several years! September/October 2004

Dianne Bouley Wood and her husband, John, participated in a marathon for the American Stroke Association in June 2004, raising $10,000 for the cause. John recently retired after over 35 years as a psychologist. The two plan to relocate to their Hudson Beach, FL, gulf-front condo. January/February 2005

Diane Fava D'Errico's son Keith Mitchall Golden is graduating in the spring of 2005 from the Medical College of Virginia. He will be starting his residency in internal medicine at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. March/April 2005

The members of the Class of 1968 extend their sympathy to Martha Kiernan Wolfe on the death of her father on August 12, 2005. Mr. Kiernan was a charming man and an asset to the Dracut Historical Society. July/August 2005

Kathy Fullam Jerram welcomed her first grandchild, Alison Oliver Jerram, on September 4, 2005. Alison is a beautiful, healthy and happy baby. September/October 2005

Margaret Trum Golibersuch's son Michael is currently serving with the U.S. Army Chemical Corp in Iraq. She proudly attended his commissioning upon graduation from Syracuse University. Following officer's basic, Michael was assigned to a year in South Korea. His permanent assignment is at Edgewood Arsenal located near his parents and sister in Maryland. November/December 2005

Kathleen Finegan Holcombe has two sons with her husband Peter: Christopher, a freshman at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and Benjamin, a junior at Cape Cod Academy. Jan/Feb 2004

Bonnie Maguire Pumerantz reports that former Sr. Catherine SND is now Bonnie Pumerantz, happily married, 29 years. She is the Director of Guidance at East Catholic High School and her husband, Howie, works for the Treasury Department for the Federal Government. Her children: Amy, 26, is a Nutrition Coordinator in Health Education for the University of Connecticutt-Storrs. Son Aaron, 25, is applying to medical school and Dan, 23, is an accountant at Price-Cooper Waterhouse. Mar/Apr 2004

The Office of English Language Acquisition of the U.S. Department of Education recognized Margaret Trum Golibersuch as one of three nationally recognized teachers of excellence and professionalism. The Deputy Secretary of Education presented the award at the OELA Summit. May/June 2004

Patricia Niedermeier Moran's sister, Nancy Niedermeier Dunning '69, passed away on December 5, 2003. Nancy's family, Jim, Elizabeth and Chris, as well as Patricia, ask for your prayers during this life-altering time. May/June 2004

Margaret Trum Golibersuch has worked as a Validator for the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards for the past two years. She has helped with scoring assessments for candidates seeking national Certification in English as a New Language. November/December 2004

Ellen O'Brien Perfetti became the Vice President of Lending Operations at Wellesley Co-operative Bank, after more than twenty years at Foxborough Savings Bank, which became BankNorth. November/December 2004

Mary Ann Roy Ficociello was awarded a new 3502 Nissan Sportscar for achieving distinction in performance as a Nikkeu Wellness Consultant. Nov/Dec 2003

Dianne Bouley Wood and husband John recently bought a waterfront condo on the Gulf of Mexico in Hudson Beach, Florida. They are spending as much time in Florida as possible and hope to retire there in the not-too-distant future. Nov/Dec 2003

Carolyn Healy Lewis is the Assistant Director of the Darien Senior Center. She has a 13 year old son going into the 8th grade. Spring/Summer 2003.

Kathleen Dolan McIntyre and Danny celebrated their 30th anniversary in May. Their daughter, Siobhan, has just completed her first year at Grinnell College. Spring/Summer 2003.

Jane Scorza (Chiurri) is retiring in June of 2003 after thirty-five years at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Winter 2003.

Margaret Lanahan Kowalksi recently retired after 24 years in Albany City School District as School Nurse Teacher. A great career — a great retirement. Winter 2003.

Jane E. Scorza will retire in June 2003 after 35 years of teaching French and Italian and more recently serving as Dean of Students at Cambridge Ridge Latin School. Winter 2003.

Jane Corcoran Costa is still designing at Ethan Allen (eight years). Her daughter Hilary is 19 and is in her second year at U.C. Davis studying to be a newspaper writer, and may capitulate to grad school in Boston! Winter 2003.

Dianne Bouley Wood is the Program Director of a Traumatic Brain Injury Program. She has traveled to Hawaii twice in the past 18 months, enjoyed some Caribbean cruising and will be returning in April on QE2 for two weeks. She is currently serving as president of a non-profit animal rescue organization as volunteer work. Spring 2002.

Kathleen O'Sullivan Kinasewitz owns an independent bookstore. Her biggest competitor is the Internet. Discounts now on the Internet are falling, shipping costs are up. Kathleen encourages support of all locally owned businesses; they support your local economy, our city, police, fire departments and schools! Summer 2001

Marguerite Mahoney's oldest son, Matthew, graduated from Medical School and is now practicing pediatrics in St. Petersburg, Florida. Summer 2001

Barbara Ridge was recently appointed to the position of Vice President, overseeing the nationwide Human Resources operations for MetLife Auto and Home. Barbara currently lives in Needham with her husband, Scott Muldoon. Barbara is also pursuing her MSc degree from Leicester University in the United Kingdom. Summer 2001

Class of 1967

Frances Bryniarski Richey moved to Dayton, OR in April 2006 after retiring from Shrewsbury Middle School in Massachusetts. She loves Dayton and says that the Willamette Valley is beautiful. She periodically brings communion to patients in a hospital and a nursing home nearby. She also helps out at a local bookstore twice a week. November/December 2006

The 2006 National Conference on Education in San Diego, CA was the setting for a recent mini-reunion for classmates Cecilia DiBella, Carol Boniface Anderson and Joan Connolly-Costello. Cecilia, who recently moved from Boston to South Grafton, is Superintendent of Schools in Sutton, MA. Carol is the Director of Special Education at Woburn High School. Joan is Superintendent of Schools in Malden and is currently the President of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents. March/April 2006

Janit Romayko made turning 60 a positive milestone as she advanced from 66th place at age 59 to 10th place by age 60 in the US Triathlon rankings. Janit finished 16 triathlons in 2005 and will "consider" the Ironman competition, which includes cycling, running and swimming, when she turns 70! May/June 2006.

Sr. Barbara-Jean Kubik, SND is currently living in Okayama, Japan at Notre Dame Seishin University. Sr. Barbara is teaching English and living with five Japanese SND's in the Cuvilly Community on campus. She says that her Japanese is improving and that the entire experience is a wonderful dream come true. July/Aug 2006

Geraldine Bannon Creedon, currently state representative for the 11th Plymouth and Bristol District, is seeking re-election. She currently serves on the House Post Audit and Oversight Committee, Arts & Humanities Committee, and the House Ways and Means Committee. She is also the legislative liaison to the Gifted and Talented Education Advisory Council. Before becoming a state representative, Geraldine was only the second female president of the Brockton City Council. March/April 2005

Margaret (Peggy) Chasse Hallee and her husband, Neal, retired from their Orono lives and careers in 2003. They now live in Copper, ME for the summer months. They own a lodge-type home on beautiful Cathance Lake. In the winter they go "south" to Topsham, ME where their mobile home is only five miles from the home of their granddaughters. March/April 2005

Janit Romayko swam her way to gold again at the Senior Olympics in Norfolk, VA, in June of 2003. Her gold came in the 50 and 100 yard breast stroke events and she silvered in the 200 yard breast stroke. She is on her way to the Seniors again in 2005, to be held in Pittsburgh, PA. May/June 2004

Jeanne Cahill Steiner is still enjoying Charlotte but misses being close to water. Since their son and daughters, and their families, are still living in three distant locations, she and her husband are keeping busy with the purchase and renovation of a 1927 bungalow. It's a whole new experience! May/June 2004

Elizabeth Hayes Patterson, Esq., Emmanuel College trustee, authored an article in The Josephite Harvest September edition. Her article, "Celebrating the Promise of Racial Justice," focused on the ongoing struggle of desegregating and diversifying Catholic churches and schools throughout the United States. September/October 2004

On September 2, 2004, the Boston Globe published an article by staff writer David L. Harris about Emmanuel's own Dr. Carol O'Neil. The article, entitled "Take 2 Doctors and Call in the Morning," praised her 25 years of service at the Greater Roslindale Medical and Dental Center and announced that she will be the sixth recipient of Hermena F. Clark Service Award for her achievements. Carol is being recognized for her empathetic nature and unique doctor-patient relationships. September/October 2004

Carol Kolkmeyer McMahon has retired from teaching and alternates between summer and winter homes, staying in Florida for eight months and Connecticut for four. She is loving every minute of it. September/October 2004

Regina Preziosi DeRise and husband Marty celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in September with a trip to New Mexico. Her daughter Rosemary received an MBA degree from Columbia Business School in May 2003; son Rich received a Master of Engineering degree from Stevens Tech in Hoboken, New Jersey. Nov/Dec 2003

In October 2003, Claire Fallon received the Presidential Senior Executive Service Award for her work as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the tax division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Nov/Dec 2003

Lorraine A. Plasse retired from the Springfield Public Schools in June 2002. She is currently working for the University of Pittsburgh as a Resident Fellow at the Institute for Learning and Development Center. Nov/Dec 2003

Carolyn Rinkus Thompson is living in Lumberton, North Carolina and working as Dean of the University Honors College at UNC. She is married with two grown children. Nov/Dec 2003

Francine Castagno McCarthy has retired after teaching for 35 years. She and her husband renewed their marriage vows on their 35th anniversary in February 2003. Their 32-year-old daughter lives and works in Manhattan. Francine and her husband now share their home with two miniature Schnauzers, Gemma and Rosie. Life is good! Sept/Oct 2003.

Joyce McDonnell McDonough is still teaching in the Brockton Public Schools, as well as consulting for the Collins Writing Program. She has two grandchildren, Zachary and Allison. Sept/Oct 2003.

Ora Mathurin Aselton has been working for nearly twenty years as a high school art teacher in rural Maine and living in the small coastal town of Milbridge, where her husband serves as a GP/Family Practitioner. They have raised a son and three daughters who are presently scattered from Maine to Guam. They are very excited about the six grandchildren who bring much joy to their lives. Winter 2003.

Geraldine Creedon has been re-elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for a fourth term. Winter 2003.

Diane (Viera) Giggey is a Teacher of the Year 2002. She is also the head teacher for Foreign Language (French and Spanish) in Columbia, Connecticut. Winter 2003.

Francie Richey plans to retire from public school teaching (Shrewsbury, MA) in June 2004. She is also a Feng Shui Consultant - Graduate of the Western School of Feng Shui in San Diego California. Winter 2003.

Rosemary D. McCrohan was married in January 1998 to Ted Brooks, Director of Engineering at Mt. Auburn Hospital. Spring 2002.

Karen F. Osterman was recently promoted to full professor at Hofstra University. This is her fourth year as Chairperson of Department of Foundations, Leadership and Policy studies at Hofstra. Spring 2002.

Mary Jane Harris was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Flagler/Volusia Advanced Technology Center. This is a Charter High School being formed as a partnership between two school systems and a community college. It will prepare students for careers in technology. Summer 2001

Joyce McDonough took an alternative career leave from Brockton Public Schools to be a writing consultant for Collins Education Associates. She and her husband John became first time grandparents to Zachary on November 15, 2000. Summer 2001

Jeanne Cahill Steiner would love to hear from any other alumni in the Charlotte, NC area. She would be happy to initiate getting a group together. Summer 2001

Class of 1966

Elaine Fowler Conners continues to live on Cape Cod. Her psychotherapy practice, which focuses on acute trauma, is thriving. She is active in the local Marine Stranding Network, and Gold Star Families for Peace. In 2005 she spent the month of January traveling throughout Chile and Argentina.  November/December 2006

Suzanne Looney Yuskiw retired after years of teaching and is working in the non-profit area. She is currently serving as the director of an acting group called Theater of the Spring at Unity Christ Church in Gaithersberg, MD. January/February 2006

Alice Gibbons Getchell is currently the Media Specialist in a middle school in southern New Hampshire. Alice would like her classmates to know that her greatest professional achievement is earning her masters degree in her late 50's. She is proudest of her sons who have helped her live life more fully. She has also fulfilled her life long dream of traveling to New Zealand and Australia. May/June 2006

Janet M. Van Bobo went to the University of Toronto School of Education and received her certificate to teach in Ontario. After receiving certification in Massachusetts, she taught in the United States where she met and married Frederick Heutink, a Dutch-Canadian student persuing his master's degree at MIT. Several years later they moved to Holland and adopted two daughters from South Korea, Sonya and Susannah. After 18 years of marriage, Janet and Fred divorced in 1987. Janet went on to study art therapy in England. For the last 12 years, Janet has had two careers. The first as an English teacher for the Regional High School serving Goes, Kapelle, Middelburg, Zierkzee and Vlissingen, Holland. She is also an art therapist at the Steiner-Waldorf elementary school where she works with several doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists. Her daughters, Sonya and Susannah, are doing well. Sonya is a private secretary and lives with her partner, an architect and project developer. She spends her free time training her horse, Senna, for competitions. Susannah is a hairdresser and is married to the founder and head of a laser-technique factory and together they have two children, Anna who is six years old and Sophia who is two. In addition to spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren, Janet gives drawing and painting lessons to a faithful group of talented and inspirational women. Her many other interests include traveling, her herb and flower gardens, collecting ethnic costumes, designing her own clothes and jewelry, and volunteering for many charities. Janet sends her love and apologies for not being able to attend the 40th reunion festivities. She hopes that all of her classmates had a wonderful time and if anyone has time or inclination, to write or ring her anytime. May/June 2006

Barbara Blaikie Schott and her husband have recently moved from Maynard, MA to Plymouth, MA. She would like to thank the Class of 1966 for making their reunion such an enjoyable time for her friends and their spouses. September/October 2006

Collette LeBlanc Anderson, Kathleen Donovan DeFeo, Liz Donnelly Dickson, Jane Neary Gilligan, Debbie Trombly McCabe, Elizabeth Connor Morse and Barbara Dlugos Muldoon met for lunch in August, 2005 to celebrate their 60th birthdays and to enjoy catching up on news in 2005. Alumnae who would like to join them next summer are welcome! July/August 2005

Ann Grady Dockstader is working for the Rhode Island United Way as an ambassador for the 2005 fundraising program. Ann, the class correspondent, also has a new address: 337 Cowesett Avenue #806, West Warwick, RI 02893. July/August 2005

Kathleen O'Grady Gardner is currently volunteering at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida doing education programs as well as pet therapy with her dog Missy (one of two miniature schnauzers in her family). She is active as a volunteer with Hospice Care of Southeast Florida. Kathleen has been enjoying her summers in Rhode Island where she started playing golf just last year! Jan/Feb 2004

Julie Maria Murray will be speaking at the 2004 Spiritual Directors International Conference in Miami Beach, FL — "Integrating Holistic Spiritual Direction and Energy Healing Work." Julie's son David is a freshman at Grinnell College, IA. Julie has also been very politically active in the last three years of these troubled times. Jan/Feb 2004

Marie Gallisan Fox is teaching 4th grade at a Catholic school in Concord, NH. Her youngest daughter, Molly, is a freshman at the University of Notre Dame. Her other daughter Kathleen was named most outstanding grad student at University of Notre Dame. Mar/Apr 2004

Barbara Kuzdzol says that while some of her classmates have been contemplating retirement she is maintaining a high school activity she loved — playing with a marching band! She is between real estate appointments and is playing with the Boston City Band and the Worcester Brass Band and loving it! Mar/Apr 2004

Paula White Cashman has two weddings in the family. Her daughter, Carolyn, will be married August 2004 and her daughter, Collette, will be married October 2004. Yes, they're busy! May/June 2004

Ellen Baker is the Senior Manager of Retirement Plans for Federated Department Stores, Inc., where she works with plan design and compliance. In addition, she is responsible for executive benefits plans and is the point person for plan changes required by the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. In her "spare time," she volunteers as the accountant, weekend office manager and "behind the scenes" liturgical coordinator of lectors & Eucharistic Ministers for her parish, St. Monica-St. George Parish/Newman Center (for the University of Cincinnati). In her role at the parish, many parishioners have been known to either call her "Sister" or ask if she lives at the parish, since they see her at every mass except when she takes a vacation. November/December 2004

Muffie McKenna FitzPatrick was married in 1967 and had four children, who are now 35, 33, 31, and 20. She and her husband, Dermot, also have three grandchildren. For almost 30 years Muffie has worked for the Commonwealth as a Social Worker/Case Manager for the Department of Transitional Assistance. Since 1997, she has been in the Somerville Office and continues to work with many homeless and poverty ridden families, some of which are victims of domestic violence. Muffie and Dermot are active members at St. Brigid Parish in Lexington, MA, where they have lived for 32 years, teaching CCD for all of the children's classes. November/December 2004

Bernadette Dateo Argenti and husband John own a second home in Mashpee. Bernadette and her daughter Noelle, now 29, enjoy getting together. Her son, John Paul, turns 21 this May and is attending Northeastern University as a biology and chemistry major. Jan/Feb 2004

Mary McGivern Bell had her 4th wedding in September, and over five grandchildren in October — their youngest is a freshman at Cornell. Jan/Feb 2004

Alice Mack is a poet and performer who works with teachers and school librarians in the Boston area, teaching them how to teach children to write poetry. Mar/Apr 2004

 Marcia Houde Briggs (M.A. '67) retired after 20 years of teaching ESOL in Derry, NH. She is busy planning the "dream" trip of a month in Provence, France. Her son, Matthew, graduated in May 2004 from Tulane University Law School. May/June 2004

Sandra Stone Hines taught at Pilgrim High School in Warwick, RI from 1966-1968. She has been teaching at Agawam High School since 1968. She will return to teaching her 39th year on September 1st and is very interested in attending reunion in 2005! July/August 2004

Carol Shea is still working in urban education as a school counselor at Madison Park High School in Roxbury. This year she has a group of wonderful women with whom to share the "wisdom" of what she has learned in working with adolescents and with school bureaucracy in these hard times. Kathleen (O'Keefe) Skelly pleasantly retired from full-time teaching and now works part-time as math-science learning specialist at Massachusetts Bay Community College. Mary Jane Testa retired from Unum Carbide as Director of Epidemiology. She is now Principal Epidemiologist for Expment, Inc. She has five grandchildren. Winter 2003.

Louise Doherty Wyant passed away on October 24, 2004. After graduating from Emmanuel College, she later moved to Arizona and pursued an honorary career in watercolor. Along with countless awards for her art, Louise established the Louise Doherty Wyant Endowed Professorship at Emmanuel. Her funeral was held in the Emmanuel College chapel on October 29th to celebrate her life with family and Emmanuel classmates. Louise was buried at Holly Hood Cemetery in Brookline, MA. September/October 2004

Denise Beauchamp Archambault and her husband, Leon, welcomed their ninth grandchild, Ben, into their ever expanding family. November/December 2004

Mary Goode was a teacher and principal in the Middleborough Public School System for thirty years. She started her life as a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame for 13 years, from 1959 to 1972, and left to become a teacher. After thirteen years of teaching, Mary was approached to become the principal of the Mayflower Elementary School. In June 2002, Mary decided to retire but couldn't stay away from her love of working with children. Soon she began to volunteer at a learning center in South Boston run by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Mary began co-teaching a third grade class at Our Lady of Presentation School in Brighton, MA and began teaching a third grade class full time in the fall of 2004. Mary was a beloved administrator who knew every child and staff member and their families. Her high level of energy and true commitment to making the school a great place to work and to learn were contagious. A year after her retirement, Goode's fellow teachers and administrators decided to rename the Mayflower Elementary School in honor of Goode's dedication and service. On Tuesday, October 19, 2004 the Middleborough School Department held a dedication ceremony as they renamed the Mayflower School to the Mary K. Goode School. November/December 2004

Marie Hyland Doyle, agent and partner in the Westborough office of Keller Williams Realty, received the Platinum Circle Award for outstanding achievements in 2004. Marie has been a full-time member of the real estate industry since 1993, and she has earned many awards during her career. She is an active member of the National Association of Realtors, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, and the Greater Worcester Board of Realtors. March/April 2005

Ann Marie Reen has decided to retire from her guidance counselor position at Danvers High school after 42 years of service. Although she plans to take some time for herself, Ann Marie was elected Vice President of the school's program DEEP, as to not completely separate herself from the school all at once. Louise Doherty Wyant has been awarded membership to the Royal Scorpion Honor Society of the Arizona Watercolor Association.  Mary Lynch Jurecka recently hosted Claire Gastonguay Taber for two days in Washington, D.C. while Claire was visiting from Colorado Springs. Claire was in the area to see her daughters and their families. Claire and Mary toured the recently-opened national Museum of the American Indian (a fascinating collection) and had lunch at the National Gallery of Art. They had a wonderful time walking in the crisp fall weather and reminiscing about all of their former classmates. Mary and her husband, Ken, plan to visit Claire in Colorado Springs in the summer of 2005. November/December 2004

Mary A. Lynch Jurecka keeps busy with regular exercise classes (followed by coffee with friends!), volunteering at a local hospice inpatient unit, and working with The Gabriel Project which helps women in crisis pregnancies. Nov/Dec 2003

Mary Margaret Quinn-Devine continues to enjoy teaching English to eighth graders and being the V.P. Grievance Chair where she works with faculty and administrators to resolve conflicts. Her daughter, Ellen Quinn-Devine, graduated from Cornell in May 2003 and plans to pursue graduate study at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Nov/Dec 2003

Maybeth Fandel Sonn retired from her job as a librarian at Gleason Public Library in order to supervise the execution of her landscape design for the new St. Irene Church in Carlisle. Her husband, Ed, is also retired. They enjoy their two grandchildren who live in Carlisle. Sept/Oct 2003

Mary Margaret Quinn Devine is still teaching English and actually enjoys it! Her daughter Ellen, an English major, is a senior at Cornell University. Upon graduation, she intends to work 9 Spatte and pursue graduate work at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. Ellen spent a month in Galway this past summer studying Irish Language and Culture. Louise Doherty Wyant has been awarded Signature Status in Arizona Aqueous, a national watercolor exhibit. She has also had a painting accepted in this year's show. Louise is co-chair of a watercolor exhibit at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Winter 2003.

Dr. Margaret Buckley is still practicing general dentistry after 35 years. For the first 29 years she had a joint practice with her husband. Since he passed away in 1996 she has carried on the practice by herself. She was the first Emmanuel graduate to enter dentistry. She graduated from Tuft's Dental School in 1967. Winter 2003.

Ellen P. Geisler spent two weeks on a fossil reptile dig on the Missouri River through the South Dakota School of Mines. Winter 2003.

Louise Doherty Wyant had one watercolor painting in the AWH Spring Show in Phoenix, AZ, one painting in the Trading Places Show in Sedona, AZ (the painting was used on the show's invitation) and two paintings in the SAWG Desert Museum Summer Show. Spring 2002.

Claudette Boisjoly has retired after 38 years of teaching French in the Lowell School System. Spring 2002.

Maureen Walsh Cooksley moved back to Massachusetts from Connecticut in June of 2000 after 37 years teaching at the elementary level. She is now living with and helping in the care of her 90 year-old mother. Spring 2002.

Donna Giberti Furio's husband sold his dental practice where Donna was office manager. They are now enjoying four beautiful grandchildren at their home at Minot Beach. It doesn't get any better than this! Spring 2002.

Mary Lynch Jurecka spent a wonderful week in July with Claire Gastonguay Taber '63 in her beautiful Colorado home overlooking Pike's Peak. They had a terrific time sightseeing, swimming, hiking locally and also in Rocky Mountain National Park (6 miles at 10,000 feet). They resurrected Claire's 1963 yearbook and fondly reminisced about all of their classmates. They agreed that the week passed all too quickly! Spring 2002.

Class of 1962

Kathryn Dougherty Bestany is working at Howard Community College in Maryland, where she has worked since she and her husband, Dick, moved there in 1978. Currently, Kathy manages the production of all college promotional publications. Although it is not official yet, she will probably retire in December 2005. Kathy's children are both married and live locally. Her son, Rick, and his wife, Steph, have two boys, R.J., 3 and Sam, 4 months. Her daughter, Cyndi, was married in May 2004 in Brewster, MA and had her reception at Ocean Edge. Several years ago Dick and Kathy bought a condo in Brewster — the Cape has always been their favorite vacation spot. January/February 2005

After retiring from Salem State College as Dean of Planning and Institutional Information, Joan McGowan re-entered the world of the student by taking art classes in oils, pastels, acrylics, and watercolors. She is having a show from April 3rd through April 30th 2005 in Salem at Alex and Company on Front Street. Joan has recently been accepted into the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement. She spent a preview day with friends already in the program and was delightfully surprised to meet another class member, Diane Pitochelli. After years of study in mathematics, science and technology, Joan is now an avid reader of history particularly US Presidential biography. She currently lives in a condo building in Cambridge, where Ann Kelly, another member of the class, lives. January/February 2005

Margaret (Peggy) O'Keefe Coupal and her husband divide their time between Harwich and Fort Myers. Peggy retired in June 2001 after 32 years of teaching science, and she just loves the freedom of retirement. She and her husband have three grandchildren, two in North Carolina and one close by in Connecticut. She volunteers at the library in Harwich during the summer and does computer work a few hours a week for a real estate company. Life is very good. January/February 2005

Patricia Curran Gozemba is doing a lot of environmental work in Salem. She feels that it is her legacy before she gets to fulfill her dream of moving to Hawaii. She's on the countdown and hopes to be there within two years. Pat is visiting Hawaii until the beginning of March, depending on the weather in MA. As for The History Project, right now she's working on documenting "Boston's Response to the AIDS Crisis." She is examining how communities affected by the disease have responded. It is a story that is often forgotten. January/February 2005

The highlight of Mary Ann (Maisie) Moran Wall's winter was a long anticipated trip to Peru and Ecuador. Ceiba Tops was her home in the Amazon Jungle for five days. While there, she took nature walks, including a canopy walk 180 feet above the jungle floor, went on an early morning birding expedition, visited villages of the riberenos (river people), fished for piranhas, and learned about the flora and fauna of the region. She then flew back to Lima and spent two days touring the city before flying to Cuzco, the ancient capital of Peru situated 12,000 feet above sea level. Maisie stayed at the Monesterio, a monastery built in the 16th century, and toured the ancient city and the surrounding areas, which were the center of Inca civilization. She stayed overnight at Machu Picchu and then returned to Cuzco for a lunch with a Peruvian family. Maisie then flew to Quito, Ecuador for a day of city sightseeing. Then she boarded another plane to the Galapagos Islands for five days of exploring Charles Darwin's laboratory. The trip was strenuous but very doable for anyone reasonably active. Maisie and her companions were well taken care of by their tour guides. The finale was a farewell dinner with entertainment in Quito with the guide and the 17 others who shared the adventure with her. January/February 2005

Eileen Barry Banta and her husband Bob need your prayers. Bob is facing a serious medical problem. They do have good news, however — their daughter Renie is expecting her second child in October 2005. March/April 2005

Alicia Mendalka Newman retired after 32 years at the National Security Agency. She currently works part time at the Upscale Retail Boutique, which benefits the charity Partners in Care. Alicia is president of the Laurel Business and Professional Woman. She is active in the American Association of University Women as well as in her church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Crofton, Maryland. She is also the Vice Queen of the Well-Read Hatters, a red Hat group and book club in Bowie, Maryland. Her children Linda and Jeff live nearby along with Alicia's four grandchildren. Alicia is looking forward to a visit from Sr. Janet Eisner and would welcome any of her classmates who come through the area. She lives about ten miles outside of Annapolis and is convenient to both the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. areas. March/April 2005

Joyce Collins was appointed as Associate Professor of Spanish at Stonehill College in Canton, MA. In addition to her job, she plays guitar in a folk group at Saint Timothy's in Norwood, MA. Joyce has traveled to Spain, Mexico, Peru, Ireland, California, San Antonio and New Mexico. May/June 2005

Kerry O'Malley, daughter of Marianne McGuire O'Malley and granddaughter of Clare Connors McGuire '33, is playing the lead female role in the Wang Center's current production of "White Christmas." November/December 2005

Class of 1961

Andrea Stone Clark would like to wish her classmates well, as it was their 45th year reunion this past June. Unfortunately, Andrea could not make it to Alumni Weekend 2006, as she is helping her husband, Bill, to recover after his recent open-heart surgery. Andrea assures all that both she and Bill are doing well in their mid-coast Florida home where they have lived for over seven years. Their children are in New England, where daughter, Suzanne, is an acupuncturist in Arlington and teaches at the New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown. Son, Michael, lives in Andover and works as a hardware engineer and designs programs for Analog Devices. Stepdaughter, Laura, is a massage therapist and heads a holistic health center in Middletown, CT. Currently, Andrea is writing. She published a book on complementary health last year called The Inside Out Makeover. Her book can be found online or in any bookstore. If interested, an excerpt can be found on iUniverse.com. In addition, Andrea has finished two novels. One novel, The Reach, is about four women who run an art cooperative in rural Maine. Mary has had an extensive career in real estate and she is also an active member of several volunteer organizations, including The Hull Garden Club, Weir River Estuary Park Committee, and the Friends of the Hull Public Library. Nancy McElaney Joyce and her husband, Jack Joyce, are blessed with two wonderful daughters and "sons." Daughter, Nancy, her husband Rene and their 18 month old "angel," Nora Jarquin, live five minutes away. Nancy's second daughter, Kathleen, and her husband, Eddie Coney, live in West Harford, CT and bring Nancy and her husband much joy. Maryann Celli Minutillo and her husband, Bob, attended the wedding of their son, Robert, in Key West, FL. Maryann continues her work with Peace Corps as Regional Director with responsibility for 24 countries in the Western Hemisphere and Asia Pacific Islands. May/June 2004

Gertrude R. Healey recently helped establish a new chapter of the Red Hat Society with other retired teachers. Her husband Bill joined her in retirement in 2002; he was recently voted Professor Emeritus by the trustees of the College of the Holy Cross. Winter 2003.

After being widowed for ten years, Cornelia Doherty has married again, enriching her life and adding three more grown children to her own six. Her four grandchildren are her delight and three more are on the way. She has survived cancer twice and treasures every living day. Winter 2003.

Mary Lou McNulty McMahon is very much enjoying retirement. Most of her and her husband's years are spent in Naples and summer and early fall are spent in Noblesville, Indiana living in a condo on a lake. Her two sons and two granddaughters are also there at the lake with them. Winter 2003.

Carolyn Burns Maloon is working two days a week at the Peabody-Essex Museum and loves being around all that history, art and culture. She just had her fifth granddaughter in November and now has enough to man the Emmanuel College Basketball team! Spring 2002

Roberta Cronin Keefe retired from teaching Spanish in June of 2000. Her husband retired in November. They are spending more time with their grandchildren and family. They also have a new German Shepherd puppy. Summer 2001

Justine Ohlsen Luongo has seven grandchildren spread over three states: Houston, TX, Atlanta, GA and Wilmington, DE. Summer 2001

Anita Giardullo Massie has prepared her choir for a concert tour to Rome in June, 2001. She has never stopped being busy with her music. She is directing "How to Succeed in Business" for Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, MA. Anita is also an avid tennis player and very proud to have four lovely grandchildren. Summer 2001

Maryann Minutillo spent two years in Bolivia as Peace Corps Director. She is enjoying her work at the DC headquarters while she serves as Chief of Operations for the Inter America and Pacific Region, which currently serves 22 countries with over 2,000 volunteers. Her husband Bob and son Roberto are well. Summer 2001

Sisters of Notre Dame Linda Bessom '69, Frances Donahue '61, Carol Hood '65, Louise Kearns '64, Maureen McLaughlin '66, Joyce McMullen '68, Mary Mulligan '60, and Jean Sullivan '67 were featured in an article highlighting the 200th anniversary of the order's founding ("Gutsy Nuns Celebrate 200 Years," Boston Sunday Herald, May 2, 2004). Maureen Cronin is moving to Truro, MA. She is due to retire in 2007. Her house is being built now. All of this is God willing. Her twelfth grandchild is due in July 2004, in Maine. May/June 2004

Ellen Mahoney Bonhote has three great grandsons from her oldest grandchild and more grandchildren continue to arrive! Danielle was born in June 2003 and Anthony in December 2004. Ellen's children are located across the nation from Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Delaware. Needless to say, Ellen and her husband travel a lot! Recently, they returned from a trip of "pure pleasure" after touring Italy. November/December 2004

Andrea Stone Clark and husband Bill have come out of retirement to volunteer at the Dragon Risbs College of Oriental Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. Andrea is Dean of Students and Bill is the academic Dean. They both work three days a week. Their daughter is an Oriental Medicine Physician in Boston. Nov/Dec 2003

Roberta Cronin Keefe, who has been widowed since 2001, has retired from teaching Spanish in the Glastonbury Public Schools. She is enjoying her two daughters and two grandchildren. She recently returned from a trip to Peru where she spent some time in the Amazon jungle. Nov/Dec 2003

Sr. Mary Friel, SND was elected from the Connecticut Province to be Permanent Representative of the Congregation as an NGO at the UN Headquarters in New York. Sept/Oct 2003.

Esperanca Ferreira Romero is the Director of the Foreign Language department at Icesi University in Cal, Colombia, where she's lived since her Peace Corps days in 1962. Spring/Summer 2003.

Barbara Talbot Taylor covers Florida with her seminars, teaching people to take personal responsibility for their own safety and increasing awareness during times of terrorists and snipers. Winter 2003.

In 2002, Elaine R. Farrand moved to New Jersey to be near her daughter Tricia, her husband Ron, and their two children. She is currently working as a technical writer for her own company, HiTech Writing Group (www.hiTechwritinggroup.com). Winter 2003.

Martha Donahue Patton became a grandparent when Tobey H.B. Patton was born July 1, 2002 in Chicago! Winter 2003.

Joan-Marie Mahan Segota recently retired from her 15-year job as Editorial Assistant for The Journal of Digital Imaging, published by WB Saunders Co., Philadelphia. To keep busy, she drives the elderly to medical appointments several days a week and does some child and animal care. She is very active in "Voice of the Faithful." She has no grandchildren yet. Carol Delaney Looney Roden has had 12 grandchildren in 12 years. Carol has also been elected to Who's Who of American University Women 2003. Winter 2003.

Mary E. Friel, SND has relocated to E. Hartford, CT in the founding of a Welcoming Community for Woman interested in being SNDs. She is also teaching Psychology and Women's Studies at Manchester Community College with Ann Pasquino. Mary and Ann enjoy their work as Information Volunteers in the Appalachian Mountain Club and White Mountains of New Hampshire. Spring 2002

Carol Delaney Looney Rodem has four children who have blessed her with eleven grandchildren in eleven years! Vin has three boys, Kara '86 has one boy and twin girls, Doug has one boy and one girl and John has three boys. Life is beautiful! Spring 2002

Barbara Taylor has given personal safety seminars throughout Florida and since September 11th she has seen a 100% increase in classes. Spring 2002

Martha Donahue Patton visited China the first two weeks of November 2001. Shanghai, Yangtze River cruise, Xian and Beijing are highlights. Spring 2002

The Class of 1960 celebrated the 40th anniversary of their graduation on the beautiful campus of the College June 2, 2000 with many graduates attending. Summer 2001

Maureen Palmer Hanrahan expected her first grandchild recently. She is retired and hopes to enjoy this baby very much. Summer 2001

Helen Harris has been enjoying retirement for two years. She is looking forward to continuing retirement on the Cape and wishes a good life to everybody. Elaine Keyes will be taking a new job in the Accountant Retail Division of Country Curtains in Stockbridge. Summer 2001

 Maureen Spillane received her Master's Certificate in Landscape Design from the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University in June 2000. She now has a second career as a designer of residential gardens. Summer 2001
