Graduating Classes of the 1950s


Class of 1959

Originally from Puerto Rico, Bonisa "Bonnie" Fortunati Dengler Boston and to Emmanuel College with her cousin, Donna Giberti, in 1959. Bonnie spent her sophomore and junior years at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Notre Dame's in Baltimore, Maryland and Wilton, Connecticut. After spending several years there, Bonnie returned to Puerto Rico, where she graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and proceeded to teach there for a few years before teaching in New York City in 1968. In September of 1971, Bonnie married Bernard M. Dengler. Together, they have three daughters and three sons, all graduated from Dartmouth College, Fordham College or Columbia University with the exception of their youngest, Emily, who is currently a Junior at Emmanuel College! Bonnie has visited many classmates in Guatemala, such as Coralia Andrade Camacho '62, Maria del Carmen Murua-Kielhauer '60, and  Ellen Geisler Powers '63 New York City. July/August 2005

Elizabeth (Bett) Farrell McCarthy has been named regional vice president for the ten offices of Kinlin Grover GMAC Real estate. She will oversee over 160 agents, serving Cape Cod out of her Sandwich office. Bett continues to serve as an advisor to the Boston Redevelopment Authority Waterfront Development-Fort Port Channel Project. March/April 2005

Mary Arapoff McEwen has started a Russian Liturgical Choir at St. Anthony of Padua in Woodlands, Texas, near Houston. The choir has already sung a Russian Lenten Vespers service following a presentation on Russian icons. Mary considers it her task to share with Catholics the beauty of Russian Icons and sacred Orthodox music. She has recently released a CD called "Icon Song." The CD and other information is available through her website www.arapofficonsong.com March/April 2005

Ann Giberti Carriere's fourth daughter earned a Ph.D. and was working for the State Department in Washington, D.C. She was married on October 10, 2004 in Boston, MA to Matthias Kretschmer, Ph.D. of Stuttgart, Germany. Both left for Melbourne, Australia in December 2004 for jobs in political science. Ann also has a new granddaughter, who was born on November 1, 2004. She now has five granddaughters and five grandsons! Ann wishes everyone a happy 2005! November/December 2004

Maureen Timmins Sullivan welcomed her first granddaughter, Kerry Grace, into the group of her previous nine grandsons. Her first grandchild is now twenty years old and a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Maureen also flew into Honolulu and picked up a cruise that went to Kawai, Maui, Hawaii and Oahu. She said it was a "fun trip!" November/December 2004

On Sunday, July 11, 2004 the Worcester and Cape Cod Alumni Chapters of Emmanuel College participated for the first time in the 10th annual Swim/Run-Wade/Walk event held at West Harwich Beach to benefit the Davenport-Mugar at Cape Cod Hospital. The Worcester alumni who worked to raise the funds and participate in the Walk/Run were Betty Walsh O'Keefe '58, Anne Early Giangregorio and Rosemary Cronin. The Cape Cod Chapter was chaired by Elaine Brennan Bass.

The Emmanuel Alumni raised a total of $1,280, which was a remarkable first attempt. This added to the other college contributions and some individual donations, a grand total of $85,000 was raised for the Cancer Center.

Susan Bushe, daughter of Anne Early Giangregorio, volunteered to represent Emmanuel in the Swim/Run part of the event. She completed the challenge and did an outstanding job. The Emmanuel Alumni who participated wore t-shirts with the school name and a list of those who have been touched by cancer and those who have lost the battle to it.

On Saturday, St. Pius Tenth Church in Yarmouth welcomed those who were to participate in the race to the four o'clock Mass. All those participating and the people they were running for were remembered at the Mass.

We are grateful to all of those who supported this cause. Next year, consider setting aside Sunday, July 10, 2005 to walk with us or just come to cheer us on!

Elaine M. Donahue retired from the Boston Public School system in 1998 and thinks retirement is great! May/June 2004

Marie Harzbecker Hamilton-Worswick has remarried since her widowhood ten years ago. Her artistic talent has been sidelined by the small business world. She is now the President of a small janitorial supply business and will soon be listed in Who's Who in business. So much for retirement! May/June 2004

Elizabeth Vena Zschau retired in 2000 and still works per diem on call. She has five grandchildren aged three to eight, three in Framingham, MA and two in Portland, OR. She travels frequently, vacationing at the family's New Hampshire camp, visiting the Florida Keys, and staying with her daughter's family in Oregon. She says, "Gotta keep moving while we're still healthy! Life is good!" May/June 2004

Class of 1958

Wilma Cerruti Lucas retired in 1999 after 34 years of teaching in four different states (CT, MA, NC, SC) and three continents. Now, Wilma devotes her time to being a volunteer for Charities of PeeDee; the Hispanic Task Force of South Carolina/ ESL tutoring in Horry city, PAX CHRISTI advocacy; jail ministry; St. James Catholic Church and Costal Carolina Phi Delta Kappa. May/June 2005

Carol Mosher Haney was the featured speaker of the Revere Women's Club February 9, 2005 meeting. She spoke of the effects of conservation and beautification in the Revere community. Carol is a retired dean of Revere High School. She is a founding member and chairperson of the Revere Cultural Counsel, a member of Revere Cares, the Revere Beach Partnership, and the Board of Education technology program. Carol considers her greatest achievement in life to be her role as a mother of six children and grandmother of ten grandchildren. March/April 2005

Dr. Camille Minichino, successful physicist, teacher, editor and author, spoke on October 4, 2004 at the Lakeville Council on Aging center, examining her career as a novelist. Camille has written seven books in the Periodic Table Mystery series about a retired physicist in Revere, MA, who helps the police solve science-related cases. She has lived in San Francisco since 1977 and continues to exercise her many talents and interests. March/April 2005

M. Barbara Mitchell Hynes welcomed two grandchildren to the family. Barbara's daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Tom Hellis, had twin boys, Sean and Patrick, who are now a year old! November/December 2004

Suzanne Hart Deedy welcomed her seventh grandchild to the family and is planning an Alaskan Adventure Trip next summer for the entire family. November/December 2004

Jane Sartori Brunelle will celebrate her 47th wedding anniversary with her four children and ten grandchildren ages 5-21. They are very fortunate and have been blessed with great health and happiness. Mar/Apr 2004

Barbara Hynes says her daughter Mary Beth and husband gave birth to twin boys in November 2003. Her other granddaughter, Marissa, age 17 months, is a bundle of sunshine! Mar/Apr 2004

Mary Lou Sullivan Mack invites all Emmanuel grads, students, and families to her watercolor show on Saturdays during the month of May. It is at the Beebe Estate, 235 W. Foster Street in Melrose. Mar/Apr 2004

Florence Pigo Wendell retired from United Technologies Corp. at the end of 2003 and is enjoying freedom! Mar/Apr 2004

Marie McClintock Barry left her full-time position with the Archdiocese of Washington in June. She continues to give talks, worships, and organizes advocacy efforts. Her most recent workshop was November 2003 at National Pastoral Life Center in New York City. Where she co-led, with Thomas Duffy, a session on "Not My Cup of Tea but We Can Sit at the Same Table: Diversity in The Parish." Nov/Dec 2003

Joan M. Costello Bedford retired from the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lowell. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Elder Services of Merrimack Valley. Joan continues to be active as a volunteer in many community projects, does lots of travel, has 7 grandchildren and celebrated 45 years of marriage in October 2003. Nov/Dec 2003

Joan M. Fischer-D'Alessandro recently left the business world of real estate and returned to science. She is now able to combine her two loves of writing and medicine as an independent consultant working as a medical writer. Nov/Dec 2003

Joyce-Ellen Tulis Kaseta retired as a Title I elementary teacher in Reading in December 2001. She lost her husband, Francis, in October 2002. Joyce-Ellen volunteers one day a week in a first grade class and very much enjoys her granddaughter, Caitlin age three. Nov/Dec 2003

Wilma Cerruti Lucas was selected as pee Dee Catholic Woman; St. James Pastor's Regnotition, 2003 in May. This past fall she was selected as Horry County's Literacy Council's Volunteer of the year 2003-2004. Nov/Dec 2003

Janet Murray Bruno has retired after 35 years as a school teacher and department chairperson at Woburn High School. She is enjoying her nine grandchildren, traveling, and life in general. It's great! Sept/Oct 2003.

Virginia Newton Damiano says it's a great life and she is grateful! She continues to work 25 hours a week as a therapist for the Providence Community Action Program and sees her two children and two grandchildren as much as possible. She is involved in Social Action, theater, reading, and travel. Sept/Oct 2003.

Suzanne Doherty Gelinas notes that her beloved husband, Daniel, died on July 25, 2003. Her daughter Danielle Marie married Kevin Reiter on August 31, 2003. Danielle is a graduate of St. John's University College of Pharmacy. Sept/Oct 2003.

M. Barbara Mitchell Hynes is home babysitting grandchildren Tommy, age 7, Marissa, 6 months and one is on the way! Her daughter Peggy graduated from Emmanuel in 1996. Spring/Summer 2003.

Joyce-Ellen Tulis Kaseta retired in December 2001 as a Title 1 teacher in the Norwood, MA school system. She has one granddaughter, Caitlin. Her husband, Francis, passed away in October of 2002. Spring/Summer 2003.

Ann McMorrow Bruno enjoyed winter in Venice, FL. She is very active in Voice of the Faithful on the south coast. Eight grandchildren keep her hopping. She is grateful for each day and each blessing that comes her way. May/June 2004

Sheila Burns Shannon and her husband have recently moved back to Massachusetts from West Ossipee, NH, where they resided for nine years. Her husband had open-heart surgery to repair the aortic valve and is recovering well, thank God! Sept/Oct 2003.

Carol Scotton DeYeso remarried to Bob DeYeso. Together, they have 11 children and 27 grandchildren.

Phyllis Consalvo DiGeronimo has been married to James V. DiGeronimo for 42 years. They have three sons and five grandchildren; two more grandchildren are due in 2002. "Great Gifts from God, grandchildren are a joy!" Spring 2002.

Irene Griffin writes that her daughter Susan Griffin performed in Shanghai, China with a troupe from Boston. The Americans won the competition. Spring 2002.

Patricia Harrington Jaworski has a new granddaughter, born on November 12, 2001 to Peter and Kimberly Jaworski. She was named Julianna. Spring 2002.

Patricia Donoghue Kelley recently retired from teaching and built a new house in Rockport, MA for family vacations. Her 11th grandchild will arrive this spring. Spring 2002.

Irene Dillen Griffin is on the committee planning the fiftieth high school reunion. Winter 2003.

Claire Kenny Churchill retired from teaching science. She is enjoying her 16 grandchildren and traveling with her husband Paul, especially up to the Cape in the summer. She recently attended MT. Alvernia's 50th reunion. Winter 2003.

Phyllis (Consalro) DiGeronimo is enjoying her seven grandchildren and traveling in between all of the fun with them. Winter 2003.

Theresa Dobrowolski Klim and husband welcomed their ninth grandchild in August. After knee replacement, she is planning a trip to Southern France in June. All is well in the Klim household. Winter 2003.

Cathryn Lane Gartmann reports that life begins at 65! She is still working 90% in two part-time jobs! One job is as a reading assistant to a blind transportation specialist at the Department of Transportation. The second job is as a "Jill of all trades" at the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions. Summer 2001.

Mary Gardenier Ring is still teaching ESL at Lake Training Center in Chelsea. Her second daughter was married this year. Summer 2001.

Class of 1956

Kevin Molloy, the son of Geraldine Lambert Molloy, passed away recently. He leaves his wife, Karen, and son, Kyle, as well as his twin brother, Paul, brother, Joe, and sister, Patricia. He was a graduate of Boston College Law School.  September/October 2005

Marie Hingston Kelly died suddenly on Christmas Eve, 2004.  Marie was the wife of Frank Kelly of Sudbury.  She leaves five children, Frank, Michael, Kevin, Kathy, and Maura, and nine grandchildren.  She is also survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Hingston, Class of 1948, and Miriam Hingston McLindon, Class of 1950. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a contribution be made to Emmanuel College on Marie's behalf.  May/June 2005

The members of the class of 1956 extend their sincere condolences to Teresa Divito Cogliano and her family. Terry's husband, Vincent, died on  July 29, 2005. A warm tribute to Vincent Cogliano, together with his picture, appeared in the Boston Globe shortly after his death. He was described as a plumber "whose 'golden hands' helped thaw frozen waterlines, fix heating systems, and unclog countless pipes on the South Shore." July/August 2005

Globe columnist Eileen McNamara paid tribute recently to the work being done by classmate Eleanor Coneeney Lyons' son, Joseph Lyons, and many other volunteer attorneys from  Boston's most prestigious law firms. When Joseph Lyons was an associate at Goulston & Storrs he worked as a volunteer, nights and weekends, for the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation Project (PAIR), a non profit organization that aids asylum seekers from some of the world's most troubled areas. Joe was recognized at a dinner recently at which he was honored by PAIR as the Pro Bono attorney of the year. July/August 2005

Marlene Smiley McCauley and her longstanding devotion to the Lily of the Mohawk, Kateri Tekakwitha, has led to the publication of a new book, entitled, Song of Kateri; Princess of the Eucharist. The book, published by Grace House Publishing, is available for $14.95 plus $4.00 shipping and handling. Marlene describes her work as a "poetic biography describing the incredible obstacles Kateri had to surmount along her cross-ridden path to sanctification." July/August 2005

Marie Hingston Kelly, dear sister of Miriam Hingston McLindon '50 , passed away Christmas Eve, 2004. Miriam wrote to inform us of the sad news.  January/February 2005

Noreen A. Dimond was re-elected as Vice President of the Alumni Association. She continues working in the Technology Outreach Branch of the Air Force Research Lab. She taught an Air Force Institute of Technology course for new military scientists and engineers. Her responsibilities include involvement in the Small Business Innovation Program, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements with the private sector and International programs for Space funding. November/December 2004

Catherine Noon Haley is a proud part of an Emmanuel family legacy. Her daughter, Barbara Haley Wefers '78, graduated from Emmanuel and has a daughter currently attending the college. November/December 2004

Marie Hingston Kelly passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve. Marie was retired and had been living in Sudbury, MA with her husband. Sadly, Marianne Maguire Kerwin lost her six-year old granddaughter, Ann Kathryn Kerwin, when she was killed by a car while walking to school in Dallas, TX. Noreen A. Dimond continues working for the Air Force Research Lab at Hanscom AFB as a Physical Science Administrator. Eleanor Coneeney Lyons is still working part-time at Goulston & Storrs in Boston, where her son Joe is also employed as an associate, but she has become more active in affairs in Newburyport where she now lives. Eleanor is on the Board of the Newburyport Friends of the Council on Aging, the Executive Committee of the Seacoast Affiliate of Voice of the Faithful and a volunteer for SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders), a program of the State's disabled people under 65. Her husband Tom was recently appointed by the White House to the 12 member J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. The board sets policies and procedures for administration of the program, has final responsibility for approving selection of all grantees, and supervises the conduct of the program in the US and abroad. In Tom's first year of teaching at Phillips Academy in Andover, he taught a student named George Bush and coached him in football. Two days before Tom retired in 1999, he received a very kind and gracious handwritten letter from Governor Bush. Tom and Eleanor were invited to the While House when George Bush became President and met for over an hour with him and several of his Andover classmates. Jan/Feb 2004

Marlene Smiley McCauley and her family will be participating in a pilgrimage to the following places: Fatima, Santiago De Compostela, Lourdes and Medjugorje, from May 20-June 2, 2004 as a celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception. Marlene and husband, Allan, will be group tour leaders and are also the authors of "Adventures of a Saint: Kateri Tekakwitha-Lily of the Mohawks." Class president Eleanor Surprenant Morisseau and her husband, Gerry, although "retired," have both been working. Eleanor taught two sections of Spanish 104 at URI during the fall semester and Gerry has been acting as a substitute assistant principal in Cumberland, RI. Jan/Feb 2004

Frances T. Macchia Lydon has been retired for the past five years and has traveled to Alaska, Italy, Ireland, and the Caribbean. Nov/Dec 2003

Noreen Dimond was recognized for outstanding support to a high-level international team at Hanscom AFB, MA. Brig. General, USAF and the Director of the Space Vehicles Directorate praised her significant contributions. Noreen is Vice President of the Alumni Association Board. Winter 2003.

Joan Feener is healthy and happy with four grandchildren and a good life. Thank you, God! Winter 2003.

Pauline Rainville is teaching French at Bristol Community College (part-time) in Fall River, Massachusetts. She is also involved with "independent study" with several students. Winter 2003.

Marie Boyle took three courses in New Jersey last spring and became certified for giving Mid-Life and Long-Life Direction Workshops. Her husband Bernie is recovering from quadruple bypass surgery. They enjoy their thirteen grandchildren and are planning a spring trip to England to see five of them. Spring 2002.

Barbara Gilmore Cunningham is spending retirement memorizing names and birth dates of 13 grandchildren. Then she'll move on to matching names with faces. They live in two states so she can get away with "hey you" once in awhile. Spring 2002.

Frances Denzel retired in June after thirty years of teaching. Summer 2001.

Noreen Dimond was reelected to the Alumni Association Board of Directors for another two-year term. She was recently selected as a winning team member for the Air Force Space Vehicles Directorate's Mission Support Award. The award is a reflection of her initiative, hard work, and exceptional performance, a truly notable achievement. Summer 2001.

Joan Hinde Feener has four amazing grandchildren. Summer 2001.

Marie Kingston Kelly recently retired from her position as English teacher at Marian High School in Framingham. She is enjoying her six grandchildren but still misses "snow days." Summer 2001.

Marianne Maguire Kerwin retired from being a Mathematics Professor. She spends four months on Cape Cod each summer and the rest of her year in New Jersey. Summer 2001.

Frances Macchia Lydon spent three beautiful weeks in Italy with her husband Tom and daughter, Stephanie. They traveled from the north, near the French border to Sicily. Summer 2001.

Eleanor Lyons is in the process of retiring, and is currently consulting two days a week. She is looking forward to spending more time with her eight grandchildren and to getting involved in her new community of Newburyport. Summer 2001.

Sr. Margaret Mary Lynch, SND is enjoying her work as a Hospice volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH. The fourth floor (oncology) is a beautiful center of love and joyous devotion. Summer 2001.

Doris Kenney Mahaney and her husband John are "retired folks" now. They are enjoying their home in Chatham, visits from their three kids and their spouses, and traveling. Summer 2001.

Paula Flaherty Sweeney retired from teaching third grade and is enjoying her ten grandchildren, traveling and CCD work. Summer 2001.

Mary Cowhig Stone is living in Maine and is retired from a career in nursing. She is proud of her seven children and 15 grandchildren. May/June 2006.

Frances Kelley from Newport, RI and Claire DeLay Enright Concord, MA enjoyed one of their first get-togethers in many years. May/June 2006.

Ann Drennan Forsyth traveled up from Tennessee for the 50th reunion in 2005 and relished the opportunity to renew old friendships. Ann and her husband, Dan, have four children and eight grandchildren, all of whom live in the South and Southwest. May/June 2006.

Anne Sullivan Casey is still teaching kindergarten at St. Mary's School in Brookline, MA in addition to being the proud mother of 13 and grandmother of 15. Anne has incredible energy and renews and revives herself with summers at her beloved York Beach, ME. May/June 2006.

Mary Matthews is semi-retired in her hometown of New York City and recently traveled to Sri Lanka. May/June 2006.

Elizabeth Marley has finally settled down on the Cape after being bitten by the "travel bug." She has toured Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, India, Greece and Germany to name just a few of her destinations. She is very involved in the Town of Falmouth as a school and soup-kitchen worker and a Town Meeting member. May/June 2006.

Elizabeth "Betty" Barber Thompson is in Osterville enjoying her five children and six grandchildren. After a teaching career of 39 years she welcomes this new pace and lifestyle. May/June 2006.

Nita Pigo-Cronin is in Hyannis after a second career in pastoral counseling. She is now involved in Lifelong Learning at the Community College and "loves it." May/June 2006

Alyce Vincent Hanley divides her time between Dennisport and Florida. But in both places she is a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren. May/June 2006.

Mildred Corcoran Feloney and her sister, Elaine Corcoran O'Malley '53 enjoyed a wonderful tour of Italy together this past spring. May/June 2006.

Maryanne Connolly Kerrigan and most of her family (including grandkids of all ages) enjoyed an Irish "stay" — both touring and relaxing. May/June 2006.

Sr. Mary Elizabeth Loughran is a Holy Cross nun stationed in Brazil. Although unable to attend last year's reunion, her reflections on being in Brazil were inspirational. In her words "it is an unparalleled experience to try to walk in someone else's shoes, to learn their language, to adapt to their customs and idiomatic expressions." Mary has three master's degrees: English Literature, Liturgical Music, and Religious Studies and taught for 25 years, five of which were at the college level. May/June 2006.

Class of 1954

Ann Butler Ryan and her husband, James, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary December 26, 2004. They celebrated mass at St. James Church in Salem, followed by a reception at Hawthorne Hotel, where they were married and had their wedding reception on December 27, 1954. They have 14 children and 22 grandchildren. March/April 2005

Theresa McMasters Finney's husband, John, passed away on October 29, 2004. He was a senior correspondent and editor in the Washington bureau of The New York Times for 30 years and retired in 1987. He also taught journalism for 15 years in the Georgetown University Foreign Service program and served as a mentor to many young aspiring journalists. John will be greatly missed. September/October 2004


Our 50th Reunion on June 4-6, 2004, was wonderful! Congratulations and thanks to our extraordinary committee: Muriel O'Shea Delaney, Kathleen Fennessy McGill, Helen Murphy McLaughlin, Lois Leitch Nihen, and Ann Butler Ryan. A total of forty-seven classmates participated. We were welcomed to a transformed campus which now includes the Jean Yawkey Center and Merck Research building. Thanks to all of you, we exceeded our goal with a class gift of over $37,000.

First, a list of those who traveled from out of state: from Guam, Janet Healy Weeks, who served there as a Justice in the Supreme Court of Guam; from California, Joan Carroll Conley (the trip was a gift from her children); from Illinois, by car, Nancy Dray Burton and her husband Jack; from West Virginia, Ruth McBride Mullen and her husband Joe; from Virginia, Mary Corning Healy and her husband Jack and Florence Horn Chamberlain (who stayed with her daughter Susan and husband in Boston); from Washington, D.C., Theresa McMasters Finney; from the beaches of Delaware, Kay Ryan, recently retired; from New York, Jennie Lifrieri Ries and Patricia Cochran Clark and her husband Jack; from Maine, Cynthia Dignan; from New Hampshire, Jacquelyn Marston and Anne McGovern Lenox; and from Rhode Island, Alice Donahue Sloan and her husband Jay.

On Friday evening, the Pops were a rousing success. On Saturday morning, we had the choice of going to the Gardner Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, or a Charles River boat ride, followed in the afternoon by lunch, campus tours, and Sister Janet Eisner's address. Saturday evening we feasted on filet mignon at our 50th Reunion Dinner. Sister Ann Lynch, S.N.D., offered Grace. Marguerite McLaughlin Canavan's daughter joined us for dinner. On her way from Shrewsbury, Kay McQuillan Canney picked up our class president, Pat Cradock Perry. In addition to the husbands mentioned above, Barbara McGarry Frawley attended with her husband Arthur and Betty Shea Mitchell with her husband Phil. It was also nice to see Helen Hart MacLean.

On Sunday morning, Sheila McKinnon Mahoney's son, Father Brian Mahoney, celebrated Mass with Father Stephen Boyle, College Chaplain. At the all-college brunch following Mass, the students gave a moving presentation about their spring-break service project in Phoenix, AZ. Alice Geishecker Cofksy, Charlotte Smith and Christine Busalacchi Gaffney were among the several big raffle winners at the brunch!  July/August 2004



Sister Ann Lynch, S.N.D. tutors students where English was not their primary language at the Notre Dame Education Center in South Boston. July/August 2004

Jeannette Alfe has retired and returned to Boston, MA, to be with her mother, who is in good health. July/August 2004

Several classmates are spending time on the Cape: Jean Charron Poce, Noreen Kane McCarthy, Ginny Foley Noyes, and Betty Shea Mitchell July/August 2004

Eleanor Kilduff Howard has retired from the Boston School Department and is living on the Cape with her husband John. July/August 2004

Helen Cummings spends part of each year on the Cape and is active in Boston's French Library. July/August 2004

Sheila McKinnon Mahoney tutors students at Hudson Catholic High School. July/August 2004

 Mary O'Connell Racine, who lives in West Roxbury, tutors parochial and private school students in English and Math. July/August 2004

 Edith Wolfsberg is a mental health worker on the night shift at the Taunton State Hospital. July/August 2004

Claire Morrissey has retired from her teaching position in Boston. She was named one of the Boston Public Schools' Teachers of the Year for 2004 and honored recently at a special reception at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. July/August 2004

 Priscilla Church Tibert has moved to an apartment in her son's home and spends a lot of time with her grandchildren. She enjoys quilting, painting and reading. July/August 2004

 Emily Gregory took an exciting trip to Antarctica last February. She stopped at the Falkland Islands on the way back. This is the seventh continent she has visited. July/August 2004

 Lilla Conlon O'Donoghue keeps busy as Treasurer of the League of Catholic Women. July/August 2004

 Charlotte Smith serves as a Eucharistic Minister in her parish. In addition to bringing communion to four Waltham nursing homes and three private homes, you can find her delivering Meals on Wheels two days a week. July/August 2004

 Bea O'Donnell has been enjoying many activities since she retired as a Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare. July/August 2004

 Claire Knowles Drinkwine has moved from the Cape since her husband died and now lives near friends in Arlington, MA. She works in the field of law in Boston. July/August 2004

 Mary Lou Twohig Maloney retired from teaching in 2000 and has since enjoyed three wonderful European trips to Tuscany, Sicily and London/Paris. July/August 2004

Class of 1953

Joan Marie Sandrelli Freni proudly announced that her eldest son, John J. Freni, a trial attorney, won a settlement in Visalia, CA against four prominent business figures that conspired to defraud an elderly man. The confidential settlement was reached in Tulace County Superior Court for one million dollars. In other family news, Joan now has six grandchildren — four granddaughters and two grandsons. May/June 2005

Mary Mroz Dabrowski's daughter, Paula, recently published a book entitled Commemorations and the Shaping of Modern Poland. Patrice is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University. March/April 2005

Arline Mullaney Angell and her husband Bill will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2004. They moved to the Isles of Capri, Florida last December and continue to enjoy their seven children and 16 grandchildren. Nov/Dec 2003

Joan McNary Guertler's son, Alex, and his wife, Jocelyn, are expecting their first child in September 2005. March/April 2005

Mary Finn Goggin hosted the Emmanuel College Alumni Club of Southern California's Christmas celebration at her newly renovated home in Newport Beach. Twelve alumni attended the celebration, including Eleanor Murtagh Lape '50, who recently moved to Oceanside, Barbara Brown Rockwell '73, who has earned a master's in math,  Susan Grudzien Hewitt '68, who drove from Las Vegas, and  Agnes Yee '87. All enjoyed a delicious lunch and tree decorating. January/February 2005

Joan-Marie Sandrelli Freni visited two of her sons in California: John in San Diego and Darryl in Santa Monica. Her sixth grandchild (and second grandson), Andrew 'Drew' Mark Freni, arrived February 16, 2004 in Dallas, TX, weighing six pounds and 15 ounces. May/June 2004

Virginia Devlin Grammer's grandson, Kevin, was valedictorian of Weymouth, MA High School, class of 2004. She and her family are very proud of him. May/June 2004

Margaret Covell Evans reports that recently she and Joan Butler Tenenbaum were honored to be pall bearers at the Funeral Mass of  Sr. Barbara Gill '38. The Mass was held at the Worcester Notre Dame Covenant. Sr. Barbara was a great professor and they both enjoyed her classes and working with her on the newspaper, The Emmanuel Focus.  Mar/Apr 2004

Mary Goggin is taking a trip to Russia at the end of March. Mar/Apr 2004

Joan McNary Guertler will be having another rotator cuff surgery. Her pain for the last year plus was more than Polymialgia. She looks forward to spring plus physical therapy! Mar/Apr 2004

Helen Hayden Maiella is sad to announce the death of her husband of 47 years, Richard, on June 23, 2003. Mar/Apr 2004

Maria Mohoney Burwell is retired from Bank Boston. She has 4 grown children (2 boys and 2 girls) and 7 grandchildren (4 boys, 3 girls) who visit in the summers. Spring/Summer 2003.

Rose Marie Aimone Murphy has three daughters and two grandsons. She and husband Frank of 45 years did a great deal of traveling over the years. Frank died of cancer in August 2000. Spring/Summer 2003.

Dorothy Quigley McCurdy is now retired and enjoying life and her family. She especially enjoys her 7 grandchildren ages 2-11, and her friends, especially the friends that she made at Emmanuel over 50 years ago, "The Chemistry Kids." Dorothy is looking forward to the reunion in May. Winter 2003.

Louise (Fugere) Beattie is happily retired, busy with her garden and grandchildren and lots of books and traveling as much as possible. She says it's hard to believe it's been 50 years! Winter 2003.

Jean F. (Courtney) McGinnis is a retired Boston school teacher and real estate broker. She is widowed and has six children and 15 grandchildren. Winter 2003.

Rosemary B. Swanson has 18 grandchildren, two of whom live in Tbilisi, in the Republic of Georgia. Their primary language is Georgian, followed by English and Russian. The other grandchildren are only a drive away. Spring 2002.

Mary Dolan Ciapciak recently retired from her position as Director of Social Service for Vencor Corp. She is enjoying life, children, grandchildren (6) and friends. Summer 2001.

Lucia Ficco Valerio welcomed her eighth grandchild, Katie Danielle Feldman, in July. Her grandson Sean is now sixteen years old, Brian is fourteen years old, Margaret is seven years old, Megan is eight years old, Josh is ten years old and Arianna Mary is eighteen months old. Summer 2001.

Marie Dooley Dunn will celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with husband, Gregory, on June 18, 2005. November/December 2004

Janet M. Stewart Callahan looks forward to moving to her summer home, Blue Skies, at Higgins Beach, and to the arrival of family and friends. She sends her best regards to her classmates and encourages them to come for a visit if they are in the area. May/June 2004

Dr. Mary Rando Eberhardt is retired from practicing pediatrics for 10 years. She is enjoying bridge, gardening, and all the activities of grandchildren. She is just getting into computers and will have an email address in the New Year! Nov/Dec 2003

Jean E. Garvey states that she would have liked to contact Janet Stewart Callahan had Jane's town in Maine been included in the last report. Nov/Dec 2003

Patricia Leary MacKinnon will celebrate 50 years of marriage in January. She has 10 children and 27 grandchildren, all of whom live in Massachusetts and are greatly loved. Sept/Oct 2003.

Janet M. Stewart Callahan is still enjoying retirement in Maine. Her husband and she do some volunteer work and always look forward to having their children, grandchildren, and three great grandchildren visit. They'd love to see classmates who visit Maine! Spring/Summer 2003.

Ann Hughes Harrington is currently residing in Weymouth, MA. Her daughter Elaine Harrington Hertkamp '86 lives in Duxbury, MA with her husband Kenneth and their daughter Katerina, who is two, and is expecting their second child in June 2002. Spring 2002.

Alice d'Entremont Lombardi retired in 1995 after 29 years of teaching first and second grades. Her son Donald and his wife Patti have two children — Caitlin, 18 and Luke, 16. Her daughter Linda and her husband Brett have two children — Ross, 12 and Alisha, 10. Her husband Donald "Nino" is a retired mason contractor. Spring 2002.

Rose Marie Cadorette Smith shares with us that her daughter-in-law is a 1983 Emmanuel Graduate. Summer 2001.

Patricia McKinnon was highlighted in the Neponset Valley Daily News for giving her grandson's girlfriend, Janine Ringler, her Emmanuel class ring during the Junior Ring Ceremony last fall. Janine will graduate with the class of 2002. Summer 2001.

Class of 1951

Condolences to Helen Morrissey Haley on the passing of her husband, Dr. Robert Haley, and to  Marjorie Carr Kelley on the death of her sister, Marie Carr. May/June 2006.

Dorothy Killian McIntire is thrilled by the arrival of her granddaughter, who brings the family bundles of joy and the total number of grandchildren to nineteen! January/February 2006

The class was saddened to learn of the death of Mildred "Pat" Johnson Shea, who passed away on September 25, 2005. She was surrounded by her family in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Pat and her husband, Bob, had relocated to Myrtle Beach four years ago from their beloved West Concord conclave to be near their daughter. Although physically handicapped in varying degrees over the years, Pat managed on crutches or scooter to attend every event of interest, especially Bridge challenges and most recently, Caribbean cruises. The memory that will always remain of Pat is that of the smiling redhead twirling across the "gym" floor with every willing partner to every jukebox polka. The class extends its sincere condolences to her family. January/February 2006

The Emmanuel College Club of Cape Cod held their annual Christmas Party at the Daniel Webster Inn on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Members of the Class of 1951 that attended were: Peg Gallagher, Margaret Dennison Sweeney, Marjorie Carr Kelley, Marjorie Monahan Lynch, Pat Boyden Morris, Millie McElroy Silk, and Mary Ailinger Joyce. A great time was had by all!  November/December 2005

Jeane Ford Jolin and Patricia McDermott McLoud traveled to Belize in February 2005 for Susie McLoud's wedding. January/February 2005

Nancy McGrath Tyler's daughter Nancy Tyler Schoen deserves congratulations. She has been a Franklin music teacher for 24 years and was honored at the State House on June 24, 2004 as the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year. As the state's teacher of the year, she is eligible for this year's national competition and will travel around the state speaking to other teachers and conducting workshops. July/August 2004

Ritamae Colantuono Gaudin is happy to be back in Massachusetts (Cape Cod) after 49 years away! Her new address is: 27 Summersea Road, Mashpee, MA 02649. Jan/Feb 2004

Jeane Jolin celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in October 2003 on a Mexican Riviera Cruise, departing from San Diego. Jan/Feb 2004

Louise Saracino Ingala says, "My, how the years have passed!! It doesn't seem possible but the Lord has seen fit to keep me here. As they say, He must have a reason." Good luck and prosperity in the New Year. Nov/Dec 2003

Eileen Kelley Fitzgerald reports that her husband Edward J. Fitzgerald died on October 8, 2003. Nov/Dec 2003

Joanne Maher Taylor retired to Chatham two years ago. She had been Executive Director for Public Housing in Walpole. With her experience in that field she has been appointed as a member of the Chatham Housing Authority Board of Directors. Sept/Oct 2003.

Jeane Ford and Bill Tobin celebrated their 50th anniversary with family at West Point, KY on June 3, 2003. Spring/Summer 2003.

Phyllis Guild McDevitt is enjoying her children and 15 grandchildren — seven live nearby. Her youngest was recently married in N.Y.C. Spring/Summer 2003.

Joanne M. Taylor's husband John F. Taylor passed away on August 28, 2002. Winter 2003.

Irene E. Dempsey says Florida is the place to be from November until April any winter. Winter 2003.

Louise Saracino Ingala says that retirement is wonderful. Winter 2003.

Dorothy McIntire made it to her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband Frank on January 12, 2002. Six of their seven sons and their families met in Park City, Utah in July 2002 to celebrate the occasion. It was a great gathering. Winter 2003.

Nancy J. Tyler just returned form ten marvelous days in New York, welcoming Madison Elizabeth, grandchild number 15; a wonderful Christmas addition! Winter 2003.

Louise Saracino Ingala is still enjoying retirement. She has been extremely touched by the present day events. She asks all Emmanuel alumnae to pray! Spring 2002.

Lois B. O'Hara enjoyed a super 50th-year reunion with seventy classmates attending. Spring 2002.

Patricia Hire Jenkins is retired and living in beautiful New Hampshire with her husband Bob, who is also retired. They are enjoying their four married children and nine grandchildren. She also spends many hours at a hospital volunteering. Summer 2001.

Joan Gaffney McDonald retired from the Defense Department in 1994. Summer 2001.

Dorothy Killian McIntire has retired from the Worcester Public School System. She was Department Head of Business Education at South High Community School, Worcester, Massachusetts. Anita Reichheld in now spending more time in Florida but visiting her children in Rhode Island and the Boston area two months of the year. Summer 2001.

Anne Poulos Trakas is spending winters in Florida and has two beautiful grandchildren: John is 9 years old and Elizabeth is 6 years old. Summer 2001.

Nancy J. Tyler has recently moved to Cumberland, RI, near eight of her fourteen grandchildren and has just returned from a great cruise. She wishes joy to her classmates for their 50th reunion! Summer 2001.

Class of 1950

Shirley Dunn Horrigan passed away suddenly on March 15, 2005. She leaves her husband, Bill, five daughters, and 13 grandchildren. March/April 2005

Margaret H. Lane Brady and her husband, John, have been blessed with good health, four daughters and nine grandchildren. They are both still active in skiing, sailing, tennis, working in their parish and doing work in the Aquidneck Island Community. November/December 2004

Joann Dorey Forkin is doing well and is looking forward to her 55th Reunion coming in June 2005! November/December 2004

Mary Louise (Luby) Seaver is enjoying her semi-retirement doing some substitute teaching at Woodland School in Milford, MA. She often visits her children and fourteen grandchildren. July/August 2004

Lela Ming Wong recently enjoyed a cruise with her family. July/August 2004

Pauline Donahue Hansen moved from Falmouth two years ago to be near her married daughter and grandsons and now has a townhouse in Merrimack, NH. July/August 2004

Claire Casey Birmingham and her husband Dick have been married for 50 happy years. Nov/Dec 2003

Carol Gorman McNulty says her fifth grandchild, Kate, was born in May. She and her husband play a lot of duplicate bridge and really enjoy going away for a weekend to play. Nov/Dec 2003

Elaine Fitzgerald McHugh has been visiting her six grandchildren in six different states. This has been hard on her legs!  Nov/Dec 2003

Angelina DePinto Paison notes that her oldest granddaughter just graduated summa cum laude from Georgetown University. Sept/Oct 2003.

Patricia Beresford Kenna's twin granddaughters, Isabel and Brigette, were born October 24, 2002 to son David and his wife Susan. Spring/Summer 2003.

Elizabeth Leavitt and husband Tom celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last October. Spring/Summer 2003.

Miriam Knight will be married 50 years in September. She looks forward to her family reunion on the Cape in July. Spring/Summer 2003.

Marguerite Mackey Arden passed away on February 4th, 2003. She graduated from Emmanuel College with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. In addition to her husband, she leaves three daughters and six grandchildren. Winter 2003

Margaret Lane Brady and husband John have been blessed with good health and happiness and will celebrate fifty years of marriage on June 25, 2003. Their children — four daughters — and their families gave them a wonderful trip to Ireland. Winter 2003

Barbara H. Lynch will celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with her husband Harold Fordham from Bronx, NY in July 2003. Winter 2003

Angelina DePinto Paison retired after teaching for 32 years. She is also the number one fan at her grandchildren's sports events. Winter 2003

Elaine McHugh had both knees replaced and ran into some problems, but things are improving. She just welcomed her sixth grandchild and is enjoying every minute with them. Winter 2003

Mary Louise Seaver is doing a little traveling and also substitute teaching in the Milford Schools and is enjoying her 12 grandchildren. Winter 2003

Joan O'Neil Acord suffered a heart attack in August and is recovering nicely. Spring 2002.

Margaret Lane Brady and her husband John are enjoying their sunset years skiing, sailing and playing tennis with their daughters and nine grandchildren. They have been blessed with family and good health. Spring 2002.

Barbara Harrington Lynch and her husband will be celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary in July 2002. Spring 2002.

Miriam McLinden went to a 55th high school reunion luncheon in Danvers in September and saw two Emmanuelites, Class of '50 there — Jeanne McGinn and Marie Connery Franciose. Spring 2002.

Patricia Denn has nine children and fifteen grandchildren. The last eight are all under five so she is having fun and is busy helping out. Summer 2001.

Patricia Frey is living in a residential care community run by the Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. She has three children and three grandchildren. Summer 2001.

Barbara Lynch now has eight grandchildren; four boys and four girls. All is well. Summer 2001.

Carol McA'Nulty has a new grandchild, Conall, who was born on July 5, 2000; this makes three boys! She also traveled to France, Spain, Morocco and Italy on a cruise in September. Summer 2001.

Miriam H. McLindon is doing volunteer work at the Natick Women's Club and is on the Board of Directors of "The Open Door," serving community meals to all who wish to come. Summer 2001.

Mary-Louise Luby Seaver's husband Thomas passed away on September 13, 2000. He was a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School. We extend to Mary-Louise and her family our sincere condolences. Summer 2001.
