Sister Karen Hokanson has taught in the Education Department and the Information Technology Department since 1999. She is a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, an International Congregation of religious women who founded Emmanuel in 1919. Sister Karen believes that "Educators in the twenty-first century need to embrace technology to empower others with its use." Her doctoral dissertation focused on strategic planning for technological change in schools. Sister Karen holds both instructional and administrative licenses from the Department of Education, State of Massachusetts. She is actively involved in the Notre Dame Virtual School which provides online learning for schools affiliated with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
