Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend class and arrive on time. Each faculty member will state on the course syllabus the relationship between class participation and course grade. Faculty members will take attendance.

In the case of a family, personal, professional or medical emergency, please notify the faculty member as soon as you are aware of the situation. He/she will help you to make arrangements to complete your work if at all possible. If you withdraw from a course before it begins, no tuition is due. However, if you withdraw from a course after the first class meeting, some or all of the tuition will be due.

Students who miss 2 or more class meetings of a 5- or 7-week course, or 3 or more of a 10-week course will not receive a passing grade. Students should contact the faculty member and then withdraw from the course.

Health Insurance

Required Coverage: All full-time students are required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to be covered under an acceptable health insurance plan. It is assumed that all students will be covered under the student health insurance secured through Emmanuel College. All full-time students are automatically billed for the health insurance premium.

Waiver Form: Any full-time student who is covered under another health insurance plan and does not wish to be covered under Emmanuel College's health insurance plan must submit a signed waiver form to the Business Office. The waiver form is included with the Student Health Insurance Brochure. The signed waiver must be submitted to the Business Office by the assigned date (to be announced by the Business Office). The health insurance premium will be removed from your bill only after the signed waiver is received. Any student who does not meet the deadline will be charged in full for the premium. In addition, once the premium is paid, it cannot be refunded.

Voluntary Coverage: Any student who is less than full-time (less than 12 credits) is not required to enroll in the health insurance plan. However, all students taking at least 3 credits are eligible to enroll. Please make this request in writing to the student financial services office.

Dependents: Eligible students who enroll in the student health insurance plan may purchase insurance for their dependents as defined in the Health Insurance Brochure. Please see the brochure for eligibility requirements and rates.

Residency Requirements

Graduate & Professional Program students must complete a minimum of 12 courses at Emmanuel College to receive a Bachelor's degree. Your final semester must be completed at Emmanuel College.

Study Off-Campus

A matriculated student may obtain transfer credit for courses taken off-campus. A student wishing to exercise this option must obtain a study off-campus form and a copy of the regulations for study off-campus from the Center for Graduate & Professional Programs.

Academic Review Board

The Academic Review Board reviews petitions for exceptions to academic policies and monitors satisfactory academic progress of students towards degree completion.

SAP: Satisfactory Academic Progress

In order to achieve satisfactory academic progress, you must maintain a 2.0 (C) semester grade point average and must complete two-thirds of attempted credits during each academic year.

Academic Probation

If you receive below a 2.0 in any semester, you will be placed on probation for the following semester. During this first probationary semester, you must not receive any grades of INC. If you fail to achieve satisfactory academic progress at the end of this first probationary semester, the Academic Review Board will review your record. The Academic Review Board will then either approve an academic plan designed to help you achieve academic success, which may include an imposed Leave of Absence; or, dismiss you from the College. A student under an academic plan may not receive any grades of INC, and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average during every succeeding semester or he/she will be dismissed from the college.

Graduation Requirements

A minimum of 128 credits is required for the undergraduate bachelor's degree. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is required for graduation. Only courses with a semester grade of 2.0 or above are accepted for major courses and minor courses; grades of 2.0 or above are accepted for other courses.
