Mission Volunteer: San Bartolo, Peru
I began participating in mission trips with my church as a junior in high school. Each summer, we trek down to San Bartolo, Peru, to volunteer with the Christian Life Movement, which works to improve the quality of life in Peru, especially for children. Through the years we have helped to build youth centers and schools, taught and played with the children, established hospitals in the poorest regions, and even built a new chapel for the townspeople to call their own.
It's a lot of work during our three-week visits, but I always take a lot from the experience every time I go back. We perform the mission, learn about social issues and what it means to be Catholic. It is a beautiful thing. Mission does that to you anywhere you go.
