Community Partnerships and Programs

Jean Yawkey Center For Community Leadership
The Jean Yawkey Center for Community Leadership (JYCCL) is dedicated to developing service opportunities and leadership skills for Emmanuel College students and providing programs for young people in Boston area schools and community organizations.

Kids to College
The program allows middle school and high school students to participate in programming designed to help prepare them for their pursuit of higher education. Youth are invited to college events, such as lectures, theatre performances, cultural activities and sporting events.

Mission Grammar to Emmanuel College – MgtoEC
MGtoEC is a monthly dinner /discussion group hosted by the JYCCL and the Office of Multicultural Programs at Emmanuel College for 8th grade scholars of OLPH Mission Grammar School. The program focuses on culture, history, literacy and college readiness.

Fenway High School Dual Enrollment Program
The program builds confidence and contributes to the academic success of urban high school students by providing the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate courses at the College for high school and college credit at no cost.

Sociedad Latina
Emmanuel College serves as part of Sociedad Latina’s College Access Network, providing the Mission Hill-based organization with support for their many programs.

ABCD Parker Hill/Fenway
Through Emmanuel’s partnership with ABCD Parker Hill/Fenway, local youth gain meaningful summer work experience through ABCD’s SummerWorks program.

Carolyn A. Lynch Institute
The Carolyn A. Lynch Institute provides a range of collaborative programs and services that enhance the professional development of urban teachers and enrich the education of PK-12 students in the city of Boston and other urban areas.

Center for Science Education
The Center for Science Education's programming offers professional and educational support to urban teachers and students in the fields of science, engineering, technology and mathematics.

SND Organizations
Emmanuel College serves several Sisters of Notre Dame organizations through its New Student and Spring Days of Service, Annual Toy Drive and other educational opportunities.

Dr. Rebecca Moryl is an Associate Professor of Economics at Emmanuel College. Professor Moryl teaches on subjects including microeconomics, economic relations, the politics of international economic relations and urban economics. She believes that understanding economics is critical to understanding the worlds-big and small-in which we live.

Featured Faculty: Aren Gerdon

Professor Aren Gerdon is the Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics and an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Emmanuel College. He leads his own chemistry research group, focusing on biomaterials, and works closely with other research groups across campus. Professor Gerdon is passionate about sharing his deep knowledge of chemistry with his students, guiding them from class work to practical, real-world lab experiments.

Featured Faculty: Petros Vamvakas

Petros Vamvakas is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies and Peace Studies Programs. His work focuses on security and democratization, as well as issues related to identity and race in politics throughout the Americas. As part of his teaching, he has escorted groups of students to Crete, Greece, and will be bringing a group of students to Cuba.
