What + Where Can I Recycle?

The success of any recycling and waste program hinges on participants knowing what item goes where. Recycling shouldn't be difficult!

At Emmanuel, we want our faculty, staff and students to recycle whenever possible. Here is our guide to recycling on campus:

WHAT CAN I RECYCLE?

MIXED OFFICE PAPER

Allowed

  • Paper (copy, colored, loose-leaf)
  • Envelopes (with or without windows)
  • Letterhead/stationery
  • Brochures/pamphlets
  • Newspaper
  • Magazines
  • Manila file folders (no plastic tabs or metal)

Not Allowed

  • Food waste
  • Foam cups, plates or take-out containers
  • Paper coffee cups
  • Milk cartons and drink boxes

MIXED BEVERAGE CONTAINERS

Allowed

  • Plastic beverage & food containers (#1-#7)
  • Glass bottles and jars (clear, green or brown)
  • Metal and aluminum beverage cans
  • Steel food and soup cans

**Must be clean, empty and free of food debris**

Not Allowed

  • Food waste
  • Foam cups, plates or take-out containers
  • Plastic bags or wrap
  • Milk cartons and drink boxes
  • Oil or hazardous chemicals

WHERE CAN I RECYCLE?

Recycling is available in all buildings on campus. Each residence hall kitchen and all classrooms are equipped with receptacles. All employees are provided with a blue mixed-paper recycling bin.
Seven recycling stations are available in academic buildings. Each unit has two or three dedicated bins: Waste, bottles/cans and paper recycling, each clearly labeled. Recycle at one at the following locations:Administration Building - Muddy River Café

  • Cardinal Cushing Library - Reading Room, 1st floor
  • Maureen Murphy Wilkens Science Center - 1st and 3rd floor atriums
  • Jean Yawkey Center - 1st and 2nd floor atriums
  • Quad - outside of Jean Yawkey Center entrance (bottle/cans ONLY)
