Meet Jackie Woodson, Senior Associate Director of Admissions Marketing at Emmanuel College, Boston.
Jackie coordinates our admissions marketing efforts. She also visits and reads applications for Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Massachusetts (schools immediately west of Boston).
What is your favorite thing about Emmanuel College?
Location, location, location! Emmanuel students have the best of both worlds: a true residential campus (with a quad) inside the beautiful city of Boston. Opportunities abound for internships, cultural experiences, and the like. It's impossible to become bored here-there's simply too much to explore!
What is your favorite thing to do in Boston?
I love riding my bicycle in and around the city. It's a great way to gain a better sense of where things are located in Boston, and I always seem to discover a new park or green space during my rides.
What is the one piece of advice you would give prospective students about the college process?
Try to visit a range of institutions to see what's right for you and where you feel most at home. You may surprise yourself! People around you will have helpful opinions, but you're the person who will be living at the college or university you choose for the next four years. I'd also suggest visiting (if possible) when school's in session, so you can develop a "feel" for what the college or university is like with students on campus.
What is the most exciting aspect of working in Admissions?
Admissions counselors never seem to have the same day twice. We're able to visit random parts of the country in our admission travels, meet exceptional and truly interesting students, and talk about the great accomplishments of our college community. I feel privileged to work in such a fun career and at such a forward-thinking institution.
