American Studies

Once thought of as the world's "melting pot," American culture has evolved into a richly complex multicultural mosaic assembled from history, politics, sociology, literature, the visual and performing arts, philosophy and religion. As an American studies major in one of the nation's formative cities, you will gain an understanding of how cultural and governmental institutions reflect and shape society, as well as the significance of race, ethnicity, gender, class, popular culture and sexuality in a nation of increasing diversity.
