Biology

Focus on science. Learn about how life works. The intricacies of a cell. The elegant efficiency of the human body. The cause and cure of a disease. Your future is biology, and your laboratory is Emmanuel College.

Students interested in the study of biology are by nature a curious lot. At the most fundamental levels they seek to understand why. Emmanuel's Biology Department takes that curiosity and lets it run free. By developing students' capacity to use and critically evaluate scientific knowledge, our professors provide the valuable insights to take students beyond the "Why?" and challenge them to consider "What if?"

Emmanuel students don't just learn about biology. They practice it. Our programs are built upon the belief that science is more than being taught in the classroom or reading from a textbook. It's about investigating the unknown, performing experiments in the lab and working as a team to address difficult scientific and ethical problems. Students collaborate with faculty on real-life research and get a true sense of what it means to be scientists. They are offered unmatched opportunities to engage and interact in the subject through our Maureen Murphy Wilkens Science Center, partnership with Merck Research Laboratories-Boston and location among the hospitals, research laboratories and pharmaceutical companies of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area. Students graduate prepared to pursue a variety of career options, equipped with a more stimulating view of the world and an ever-growing sense of curiosity.
