Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of Academic Advising is to challenge, support and guide Emmanuel College students as they become active participants in their own learning and explore options and make choices within the liberal arts and science curriculum.


  • Challenge students to appreciate the interconnectedness of learning and guide them to become active participants in their own learning.
  • Guide students as they explore their academic options and make choices within the liberal arts and sciences curriculum.
  • Teach students about Emmanuel College's academic policies and procedures.
    Motivate students to make meaningful connections with faculty, access college-wide resources and participate in curricular and co-curricular activities.
  • Encourage students to develop and integrate strategies for success that will be useful throughout their lives.


  • Students will actively participate in group and individual meetings (Academic Advising Program, AA 0101) with their Academic Advisor.
  • Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of curriculum options in the creation of their Four-Year Plan.
  • Students will be able to act in accordance with the academic policies of the College and monitor their own academic progress using their Degree Audit.
  • Students will demonstrate by their varied activities a utilization of college-wide resources.

In light of their anticipated course of study and career goals, students will:

  • Refine their Four-Year Plan, considering Study Abroad, a Level One Internship, Colleges of the Fenway courses and other external educational resources and opportunities;
  • Declare their major and participate in departmental activities; and
  • Collaborate with their major departmental academic advisor and plan their transition to graduate studies and/or professional work.
