Welcome to the Resident Assistant (RA) Selection page.

RAs are student leaders and if you are chosen to become a member of the Residence Life and Housing Team you will have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with your peers, your residents, and your supervisors. While the RA job is a lot of fun and it has some great perks, it is also a challenging amount of work. It takes a lot of time and dedication. You will experience some of the high level of commitment that it takes to be an RA during the hiring process. The RA Role and Responsibilities:

The following list below outlines the core responsibilities the RA Selection Team will be looking for in a successful RA candidate. These core responsibilities should be shown throughout both the written and oral aspects of the RA Selection Process.

A. Peer Counseling: building community, conflict mediation, crisis intervention, accessibility, approachability, relationship with residents.
B. Administration: bulletin boards, promptness, accuracy, communication with supervisor, meeting attendance, duty responsibilities.
C. Programming: meeting deadlines, efforts over a desirable range of topic areas, paperwork completed in efficient and timely manner, show's enthusiasm for self and other's programming.
D. Community Standards: confronting negative behavior, documentation, modeling positive behavior, enforcing policies, demonstrating awareness, shows support for College policies.
E. Team Member: participation/attendance at staff in-services, working cooperatively with staff, supporting building staff activities.
F. Attitude: approaches position with enthusiasm, enthusiastic staff member, and shows genuine concern for hall residents.

Qualifications:

The following provisions are placed on those hired for the Resident Assistant position through the Office of Residence Life and Housing at Emmanuel College.

•Must maintain and have a current 2.50 cumulative grade point average.
•A clear judicial record, i.e., must not be on disciplinary probation and must maintain this status throughout the employment period.
•Lived on-campus for at least 1 complete semester while at Emmanuel College.
•RA will live on-campus during the dates of their contract.
•RA cannot work more than 20 hours per week beyond the RA job. Any employment, student teaching, internship, or other major responsibilities taking the RA out of the residence hall must first be discussed with the ADRD, and approved by the Director of Residence Life.
•RA cannot hold any position on Residence Hall Association (RHA) and/or Student Government Association (SGA) other than general member.
•RA cannot carry more than 18 hours of coursework or more than one evening class per semester unless he/she receives prior permission from the AD/RD. RAs may be asked to drop classes in excess of the 18-hour limit.
•An RA is hired for the complete academic year (August through May).
•RAs are not allowed to leave for break periods until the residence halls are closed.

RA Selection Important Dates:

•Tuesday, Nov. 13th: RA applications are available.
•Wednesday, Nov. 28th: RA info session - Library lecture hall - 8pm
•Monday, Dec. 3rd: RA applications due for students going abroad.
•December 3rd - 7th: Interview process will be held for those studying abroad. (business attire)
•Thursday, Dec. 6th: Study abroad students RA group process. (business attire)
•Tuesday, Jan. 22nd: Second info session is held - Library lecture hall- Activities period.
•Wednesday, Jan. 23rd: RA applications are due at 4:30pm.
•Sunday, Jan. 27th: RA group process day - tba. (business attire)
•January 30th- February 8th: RA interviews are held. (business attire)
•Friday, Feb. 15th: RA offer letters go out.
•Friday, March 3rd: RA contracts are due at 4:30p
•Tuesday, April 2nd: RA town hall meeting.
