Retreats and Spiritual Programs

Retreats and Spiritual Programs

The Campus Ministry staff provides opportunities for students to grow and develop their faith through retreats, prayer groups, bible study, conversations and workshops.

Spiritual Meditation

Spiritual meditation helps one to relax and be fully awake to the Now moment and the beauty and potential that it holds. It helps the person to listen deeply to their innermost self and thus be available and attentive to God.

Busy Person's Retreat

The Busy Person's Retreat is a retreat experience for busy people with classes, jobs, families, and other activities who find it difficult to commit a whole weekend to a conventional overnight retreat. It doesn't require a large single block of time; instead, you will schedule daily prayer time and a regular meeting with a spiritual companion into the midst of your everyday, sometimes hectic schedules. You "go on retreat" in the midst of your busy life on campus.

The campus retreat for busy persons is an on-campus, guided-prayer retreat made within the daily activities of the lives of students, faculty and staff. The style and method is that of a directed retreat, in which each retreatant meets daily with a director who guides their scripture and personal prayer. Retreatants commit themselves to one hour a day, which includes personal prayer with the scriptures, meeting with their spiritual companion and praying together with the group on retreat. The times are worked out with the retreatant and their spiritual companion. The retreats run from Sunday evening after the 8:00 pm Mass through Thursday.

Ethics Conversations

Ethics Conversations is a discussion group comprised of students, faculty and staff. The conversation topics are from current events, controversial questions and issues relevant to college students in the light of ethical decision-making and the Catholic academic tradition.

Faith Alive!

Faith Alive! is a monthly guest speaker series which attempts to integrate service and spirituality. Speakers share their experiences in various types of service and how spirituality and faith are an essential part of their ministries. This is integrated into 8:00 pm Liturgy.

Each semester, the Campus Ministry staff and students take a weekend away from campus to pray and reflect. Through presentations and discussion, songs and prayer, as well as fun activities, students have the opportunity to explore more deeply their relationship with God and their commitment to living a Christian life.

Twilight Retreats

Each semester, a Twilight Retreat from 5:00-8:00 pm is offered to students, faculty and staff. The evening includes a presentation, time for quiet prayer, conversation and dinner.

Bible Study

It is important that students have the opportunity to come together to pray and reflect on the bible. It is through the bible that we can find a blueprint for living the Christian life. At Emmanuel, we give our students the opportunity to reflect and discuss what it means to be faithful. Our students are encouraged to be ethical decision-makers and responsible members of the community.

Seasonal Celebrations

During the Advent and Lenten seasons, special services are offered for students, faculty and staff to allow for spiritual reflection and prayer. Included are such services as Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer Service, Mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mass of Reconciliation, Stations of the Cross, Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil.
