For as long as I can remember, I've been a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. So it's almost a surreal experience to go to Emmanuel-right in the center of Boston and just three blocks from Fenway Park.
My love for the team was what inspired me to get involved when I found out Sox pitcher Jon Lester had been diagnosed with cancer. My friends and I wanted to show our support, so we decided to make and sell "Striking Out Cancer" bracelets and donate the proceeds to the Jimmy Fund, a charity that helps children with cancer.
I knew everyone at Emmanuel would be encouraging, but the outpouring of support has been incredible. Now it looks like we'll present a check for the more than $15,000 we've raised for the Jimmy Fund on the field at Fenway Park. It's a great feeling knowing we're making a difference.
