Serghino Rene '05
Staff Writer, The Bay State Banner
During my senior year at Emmanuel, I interned at WCVB-TV Channel 5 in Boston where I got to produce my own 30-minute segment for the minority news magazine City Line. That experience, along with the incredibly dedicated faculty I worked with as a communication major, convinced me that journalism was what I really wanted to do once I graduated.
I'm now a staff writer for The Bay State Banner newspaper in Boston. I write about politics, business and the city's immigrant community. Last year, I covered the 2006 Massachusetts Governor's race. That allowed me to better understand the role of government and to witness history firsthand.
Emmanuel has been such a big part of my life and career, and will continue to be. I was the first-ever recruit for the men's track team…now I'm back on campus as the assistant track and cross country coach.
