2009-2010 Academic Year :: Fulbright Scholar Tripat Narayanan
Narayanan earned a B.A. in English literature and an M.A. in media and popular culture from the University of Malaysia. She then traveled as a Fulbright Scholar to receive a Ph.D. in radio, television and film from Northwestern University in Chicago. Her book, Table: Food, Frangipanis and Flair, has been published in Singapore and the United States and was presented at the International Fulbright Convention. The book was also named regional winner of Gourmand International Awards in two categories: Best Innovative Foodbook and Best First Foodbook in 2005.

The Emmanuel College book store held a "Meet the Author" event that showcased Tripat Narayanan's book, "Table: Food, Frangipanis and Flair," and featured a cooking demonstration by the Fulbright Scholar.

2009-2010 Academic Year :: Binka Le Breton
Emmanuel's Center for Mission and Spirituality presented author Binka Le Breton discussing her book, The Greatest Gift: The Courageous Life and Martyrdom of Sister Dorothy Stang, with the College community on February 17th. The lecture was a late installment of Emmanuel's Founders' Week celebration and was titled "Brazil Since Sister Dorothy Stang's Death."

2009-2010 Academic Year :: Binka Le Breton
Le Breton is the author of six books all relating to the Brazilian Amazon. Her latest book, Where the Road Ends: a Home in the Brazilian Rainforest, was released in May 2010.

Le Breton opened the lecture by reading an excerpt from her book, challenging the audience to think about what impact Sister Dorothy's life has had on each of them. Her lecture began with a short biography of Sister Dorothy, explaining her journey towards life in the Amazon Rainforest, fighting to help poor migrants move across Brazil and to find land of their own.
