Why Emmanuel

Why Emmanuel College, Why Research Administration

The Location: In the Heart of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA)

Emmanuel's central location, in the heart of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area (LMA) and adjacent to some of the most respected health care institutions and academic centers in the world, allows the College to form strategic partnerships with leaders in the research field.

Our expert instructors call upon their professional research experiences at world-renowned institutions such as Harvard University, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Dartmouth College. Emmanuel is the recipient of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association's (UPCEA) 2010 Community of Practice Award for Outreach and Engagement for Employer and Association Partnerships in Research Administration.

Don't live in the area? Our online format was developed to extend the reach of Emmanuel's Research Administration programs beyond the research and health care hub of Boston.

The Instructors: Experienced Professionals

Our faculty members are all experts in their fields who bring experience from employers such as Dartmouth College, Harvard Medical School and Partners HealthCare. They have built graduate courses that examine the bodies of knowledge for research administration and provide focused content in:

  • complex federal regulations and individual agency requirements
  • aspects of sponsored projects and proposal administration
  • negotiation and acceptance of awards
  • leadership, ethics and organizational behavior
  • financial and administrative management
  • audit and compliance issues

The Curriculum: A Cutting-Edge Approach

The knowledge and skills learned in the graduate-level research administration curriculum allow for immediate application on the job. Emmanuel College convened content-area experts to examine key competencies in the field. These key competencies complement the non-credit options of the professional associations such as the Society of Research Administrators (SRA) and the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).

Using a case study approach and interactive technology platforms, our instructors cover critical elements of sponsored projects administration, including communication, negotiation, contract management, finance and ethics. Students further their understanding through interaction with a growing network of current and future leaders in the sponsored research field. Learn more about our curriculum »
