Online FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why an online program?

Online learning allows you to progress through an academic curriculum without changing your professional and personal schedules to accommodate class meeting times. In Blackboard Vista®, the Learning Management System used to deliver online courses, you complete each week’s work at your own pace. You expand your knowledge through collaborative learning with classmates who are sponsored research professionals from varied research settings across the country.

How does the course workload compare to traditional classes?

The workload is equivalent to a graduate-level face-to-face class. During each 7-week accelerated class, you will have readings and assignments. Instructors will facilitate dialogue on Blackboard Vista® discussion boards and blogs, where you will post your comments and respond to those of your classmates. Blackboard Vista® has an easy-to-use drop-box into which you may submit written assignments. Media clips of guest lectures are another dynamic segment of these courses.

Will my instructor be available for questions or “online office hours?”

Yes. Instructors teaching in the online environment recognize the importance of accessibility and communication as they support the online student. Each individual instructor will establish a schedule for responding to questions and consulting personally with students.

How is my participation assessed?

The frequency and quality of your participation is assessed to measure your progress in the course. Participation in discussions will be one element of your overall grade, which will also reflect your performance on assignments, quizzes and/or other interactive learning activities. Your instructor for each course will explain the grading criteria.

How do I know if an online program is right for me?

Online courses are not for everyone. However, if you are motivated to work towards deadlines without the structure of weekly class meetings, and if you are competent with basic computer skills, the online format will expand your academic experience.

How do I apply?

To be eligible for admission, candidates must possess a bachelor's degree. Read Admissions Requirements or to fill out an application online.

How can I learn more about the program?

We offer information sessions via webinar, or chat online with one of our Enrollment Counselors. Or, if you're in the Boston area, attend an information session.
