I grew up in Central Illinois, where Corn is King (actually, that's Iowa). While attending Saint Olaf College in Minnesota as an undergraduate, I spent about five months in a study abroad program in Asia. I spent the majority of that time in Chiang Mai, Thailand but was also lucky enough to see Japan, Hong Kong and China as well. For graduate school I studied Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University in South Carolina. While there, I studied artificial intelligence and my master's project used neural networks to refine astronomical images. Since graduate school I have worked as a defense contractor just outside the Pentagon, taught high school mathematics, been a computer programmer, and loaded trucks for UPS. Every time I have gotten a job outside of academia, however, it draws me back in. Teaching is the best job there is because every semester is different and you always have a captive audience. Outside of school, my hobbies are reading, riding my motorcycle, working on my MG Midget, and studying tae kwon do.
