MTEL Requirements

Students must successfully complete the Communication and Literacy MTEL to be approved for the second second part of curriculum courses (EDUC2212 or EDUC2312). Students who have not passed Communication and Literacy and have received a waiver for EDUC2212 or EDUC2312, must participate in MTEL Prep Lab as a requirement of the course.

Elementary education majors must pass the Foundations of Reading MTEL and the General Curriculum MTEL in order to be approved for EDUC4467 Student Teaching Practicum.

Secondary education majors must pass the specific subject area MTEL in order to be approved for EDUC4467 Student Teaching Practicum.
