Your First Year: What to Expect!
Emmanuel College offers a number of special programs, classes and services to help new students get acclimated to college life. We can't wait to meet you and show you everything Emmanuel College and Boston have to offer!
Orientation
This overnight program will allow students to select their academic courses, meet staff and faculty and get to know their classmates. Each student will be in a group with two upperclass Orientation Leaders to give guidance and answer questions.
Students remain in touch with their Orientation Leader throughout the rest of the summer as a resource leading up to move-in. Learn more »
Welcome Week
Upon their arrival to Emmanuel's campus, new students can expect lots of things to do in the days leading up to classes.
Our New Student Day of Service, Academic Support Information, and musical performers are just a few activities to be found in Welcome Week!
First Year Seminar
The first-year seminar program comprises one-semester topical seminars unified under the theme "Knowledge, Values, and Social Change." These seminars, which range in topics from "Documentary Photography" to "Social Entrepreneurship: How to Change Your World" are designed to introduce first-year students to the ways in which the liberal arts construct knowledge; to enhance their abilities to read closely and analyze information; and to provide first-year students with an opportunity to work closely with a member of the faculty. EC 101
EC 101 is a class designed to acclimate new students to Emmanuel College and gives students a forum to ask questions or express concerns about their transition. Taught by a Student Affairs Professional, new students will get to know a staff member and an upperclass student who assists with the class. Important information about the first year as well as off-campus experiences make this course a great way to get to know Emmanuel and Boston.
