Hello! My name is Brian Collins, and I am freshman here at Emmanuel College. Not long ago I was in your position, trying to find the perfect school for me. I understand how stressful this process can be, but also know the wonderful feeling of finally finding a college that suits me perfectly!
I come from the small town of Hull, Massachusetts and was excited to learn about Emmanuel's closely knit community, much like that of where I grew up. I initially came to Emmanuel to study Biology, but quickly learned I would be doing much more than that. Here is a snapshot of a day in my life!
8:00 a.m.
I wake up, take a shower and then meet up with some friends to grab some breakfast in the dining hall before starting my busy day.
9:00 a.m.
My first class of the day is a First Year Seminar (FYS) called Democracy and the Geopolitics of Energy, a political science course that focuses on international relations. Every first year student is required to take an FYS course and with the wide range of different courses to choose from, you are sure to find one that fits your interests. My first class ends at 9:50 a.m., and I proceed to my second class of the day.
10:00 a.m.
Chemistry! BTW, I have to add that one of the best benefits of attending a school with a small campus in the city is that everything is short walk away, including all of your classes!
10:50 a.m.
After a rigorous Chemistry class, I have about an hour break to get lunch. Usually I head to the Muddy River Café for a quick sub or sandwich, the lines are short and the food is GREAT!
12:00 p.m.
Back to class... finally at my Biology course. Meeting twice a week, my Biology course lasts a bit longer than most of the others, but I guess I can't complain... I will certainly be taking more of them in the years to come.
1:15-4:45 p.m.
Finally a break! My goal during this time is to complete all of my schoolwork so I can have time later in the night to catch up with my friends somewhere on campus.
4:45-6:30 p.m.
One of the greatest experiences I have had since becoming a student at Emmanuel is being on the varsity cross country team. This is a great way to make new friends and it helps me relieve the stress that has built up during the day. Running helps me escape from reality for a while and really clear my head. Joining the cross country team has been the best decision I have made at college to date!
6:30 p.m.
After a nice long run, the cross country team heads straight to the dining hall for our nightly dinner. Coming back from a run and heading directly to dinner is possibly one of the greatest feelings, especially when you are eating the best food within the Colleges of the Fenway right on Emmanuel's campus.
7:00 p.m.
Once I finish dinner, I either go to the Cardinal Cushing Library on campus to finish my school work or go to hang out with my friends. The best thing about our library is its hours; being open from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. every weekday is really convenient, especially if you need to complete or print a paper late at night. If I am not in the library, I can be found having a good time with my friends. You can be sure that living in Boston will never leave you bored. You can catch a movie down the street at Regal Cinemas, grab a slice of pizza at one of the local pizzerias or catch a game at Fenway when the Sox are in town. If you are not in the mood for the city life one night, don't worry, there is always something happening on campus. There are many programs put on by the Resident Assistants, open gym time in the Yawkey Center or you can just hang out in your friend's rooms and play some Wii or watch a movie. There is never a shortage of activities to do.
Midnight
Usually by this time I am worn out and need to crash. Off to bed to prepare for another busy day at Emmanuel!
