Academic Planning

The Director provides academic planning for all students interested in study abroad. Students from all majors have studied abroad, taking major or minor courses, general education requirements and/or free electives.
The fit between the requirements you need to take and the country or program you prefer is a major factor in program choice. The earlier you start, the more program options you will have. This is especially true for students with highly-sequenced majors, double majors, and/or those going abroad for an entire year. These students are encouraged to see the Director as early as their freshman year.
The Director has worked with the chairs to have a good idea which requirements they will approve abroad. Although many students talk to their faculty advisors long before they visit the OIP, do not seek specific academic approvals for courses until you have met with the Director. He can guide you towards programs that will provide the most course options for the degree requirements you hope to fulfill, and will refer you to faculty when needed.
Because of the complexity of academic approvals, most students need at least 2-3 weeks between when they choose their program and when they can submit approval forms to the Director. These are due October 3rd ( for Spring Semester), and April 15th (for Fall Semester/academic year)
