Exciting Progress in Campus Transformation

September 17, 2008

With the 2008-09 academic year now officially underway and the campus abuzz once again, exciting progress continues with the construction of our new Academic Science Center. During the summer months significant progress was made in the construction of the building. Currently the project is on time and the Center remains slated to officially open in fall 2009. Here are just a few noteworthy achievements that have recently occurred:

  • Over the course of the last two months of the summer, Walsh Brothers, Inc. averaged 80-90 workers on site every day in order to adhere to the Center's construction schedule. During that time, the glass on the west side of the building was set in place, providing a big change in the look of the building as it starts to take shape.
  • Recently, work began on "roughing in" the building's electrical, HVAC and plumbing, the first step in the permanent installation of all the systems. This marks a major development in the construction process prior to the completion of the building's walls, floors and partitions. Additional interior production during the summer months included the erection of the building's stairways as well as significant progress with mechanical construction.
  • Part of the structure's roof was installed in early September while sheet metal work commenced on the second, third and fourth floors. Concrete finishing also began on the underground parking lot, which will eventually feature an additional 120 parking spaces on campus.Renovations continue on the East Wing of the Administration Building, with construction crews beginning the brick demolition process. Temporary walls were erected in August, with work to eventually begin on the wing's fourth and fifth floors.
