Eat Local: A Lesson in Sustainability

Emmanuel College was recently featured in the October 22nd edition of The Christian Science Monitor. The article entitled, "Cafeteria food features regional flavors," was the lead story under the publication's environment section and discussed the College's efforts to promote sustainability by featuring locally grown foods on its dining menus.
Highlighted was Emmanuel's "Eat Local Challenge" on September 30th, which was part of a nationwide event sponsored by Bon Appetit Management Co., the College's food services provider. Throughout the day, everything on the dining menus featured products from farmers or producers located within 150 miles of Boston. The event allowed students the opportunity to savor local foods and discuss the social and economic significance of supporting local farmers.
