Recycling Efforts Expanded; Bins Added to Every Classroom
October 01, 2007
Student Government Association (SGA) President Adam Smith '08 and crew have worked with members of the College's faculty and staff to improve Emmanuel's recycling efforts throughout campus. Recycling bins have been placed in all classrooms in hope of "reducing the College's environmental impact." Each class has two containers, one assigned for cans and bottles and the other for paper products. The program represents a continued recycling effort by the College, which has long offered recycling outlets for office paper and began providing containers in dormitories in the fall of 2006.
This next step in the initiative comes at an appropriate time as well, as an article featured on BostonNOW.com in early September listed the city of Boston near the bottom of the barrel when it comes to recycling, salvaging only 12% of its residential waste. "As an educational institution it is important to educate students on these matters and how it affects the environment," said Smith. In hopes of providing students with another outlet for communication, SGA has also established a new email address, ASKSGA, which can be accessed via FirstClass.
