Reception Honors Benefactors

May 01, 2007

Emmanuel students and staff joined together on April 2nd to recognize the generosity of alumni, trustees and friends of the College who have established scholarship funds. This scholarship support continues to forward the educational goals of Emmanuel students excelling both in the classroom and in the community.

"Contributing to a scholarship fund is one of the most empowering acts of philanthropy," said Emmanuel President Sister Janet Eisner, SND in her remarks. "Through your generosity, you and all those people who have contributed to these scholarships are making a tangible difference in the lives of students, now and in the future."

The College welcomed guests representing the following scholarship funds: the Virginia M. Cahill '74 Memorial Scholarship; the Kathleen G. Daley Scholarship; the Sr. Janet Eisner, SND Scholarship; the Peggy Cogan Leahy '52 Scholarship; the Katherine Joyce McNeil '32 Scholarship; the Mercier Scholarship; the Judge Mary B. Muse '41 Scholarship; the Elisabeth M. O'Hearn '47 Scholarship; the William Sullivan Scholarship; the Peter and Claire Themistocles Scholarship; and the Sr.Marie Carmel White, SND '44 Scholarship.

Twenty-four students receiving awards were in attendance, with some able to meet those that established their particular scholarship. Following remarks by Vice President for Finance and Administration Neil Buckley on the impact of scholarships, Senior Stephanie Michaud, an elementary education major and recipient of the Father O'Neil Memorial Scholarship, offered a student's perspective.

"For the past four years I have been challenged in all of my classes, I've made many friendships that will never be forgotten, and I've had the opportunity to see Emmanuel grow as a community with the acceptance of male students. This scholarship has helped me achieve my goals of becoming a teacher, attending Emmanuel, and graduating this coming May with a bachelor's degree in elementary education."

Theresa Falzarano '02 and Danielle DiRosa '03 assisted Sister Janet in presenting gifts of appreciation to scholarship representatives.
